Bland is the voice agent platform to pick in October 2026 if you want one vendor to own every layer of a high stakes phone line: it runs its own speech, language and voice models, bills one all in rate from $0.11 to $0.14 a minute, and lists SOC 2, HIPAA and PCI DSS. The tradeoff is price: lean stacks on Retell, Vapi or Telnyx cost less per minute.

By Bland

Bland is the simplest bill to read: one connected minute rate that covers the models, with proprietary self hosted infrastructure and a long compliance list. It costs more per minute than a lean Retell or Vapi stack, and the free tier caps you at 100 calls a day.

What it is

Bland is an enterprise voice AI platform for building, running and monitoring AI phone agents, inbound and outbound, plus SMS and web chat. Its pitch is vertical integration: where most platforms stitch together a third party speech to text engine, LLM and voice, Bland says it runs all three on its own infrastructure. That, Bland argues, means calls never leave to a third party, customer data does not train other models, and you are not exposed to a model vendor changing behavior overnight.

Bland focuses on regulated, complex calls: patient services, insurance claims, financial customer service, collections, verification and IVR replacement. Customer stories on its site cite $750,000 in annual savings from retiring an IVR, a 92% cost reduction against human calls and a 13 point CSAT increase.

Scale (billing docs) $499 a month $0.11 $0.03 100 Not stated Not stated Not stated

The public pricing page shows Start, Build and Enterprise; the Scale tier appears in Bland's billing documentation. Bland says the minute rate covers the LLM, speech to text, text to speech and telephony, with no per token or per feature charges.

Transfer time is billed on top when an AI call is transferred to a human using a Bland number. A 10 minute call with 2 minutes after transfer costs $1.50 on Start, $1.28 on Build and $1.16 on Scale, per Bland's own example. Bring your own Twilio and transfer time is free.

Price history. Until December 5, 2025, every self serve plan paid a flat $0.09 per minute. Bland moved to plan based rates and issued one time credits to cover the difference on the prior month. Budget against the current rates, not old blog posts.

Break even. Build's $299 fee pays for itself against Start at about 15,000 minutes a month ($0.02 saved per minute). Scale's $499 beats Build above about 20,000 minutes.

For comparison, a budget stack on Retell comes to about $0.0946 a minute, Vapi about $0.0818 on free Vapi telephony and Telnyx about $0.06. Bland's premium buys one bill and one vendor. Full math at five volumes is on Bland AI pricing.

Key features

Own models end to end

Bland runs its own speech to text, LLM and text to speech. It claims its voice is purpose built for phone calls and trained on real conversations, and publishes an audio realism benchmark that ranks Bland at 0.91 against human speech at 0.99, ahead of ElevenLabs, Cartesia, Google and others. That is Bland's own test, so weigh it accordingly.

Conversational Pathways and tools

Agents are built as conversational pathways: nodes for steps such as authenticating a caller, looking up an account and updating a record, with tools that call your systems mid conversation. The docs list custom code nodes, scheduling nodes, warm transfer, memory, citations, guard rails, personas and live translation.

Testing and evals

Bland's docs list a testbed, scenarios, standards and evals, so you can test every change against realistic calls before it goes live and compare resolution rates between versions. The homepage shows an example where a test version lifts resolution from 81% to 88%.

Observability

Call logs, post call webhooks, pathway call events, outcomes and alerts show why the agent made each decision. Bland stresses that voice AI should not be a black box.

Channels and languages

Phone, SMS and a web chat widget. 40+ languages natively, real time translation in 23, mid call language switching and custom voice clones per language.

Developer access

An API, SDKs, a command line interface, a web agent SDK, an MCP server and OAuth sign in with Bland. Enterprise adds SSO, static IPs, custom dialing and on premises or VPC deployment.

Forward deployed engineers

Bland's team builds your first production agent, owning the pathway, integrations and test loop with your operations team. Bland says most agents go live in two to six weeks.

What users say

Bland does not have a public review base large enough to rate: its Trustpilot profile is unclaimed with 2 reviews, one of them a complaint about a support call. Evidence comes from Bland's customer stories (IVR retirement savings, cost reduction, revenue from automated qualification and CSAT gains) and from what developers publish about it. Ask for references in your industry and for resolution data from comparable deployments.

Privacy and security

Bland says it holds SOC 2 Type I and Type II, HIPAA and PCI DSS certifications, and its homepage shows FedRAMP, GDPR and ISO 27001 badges with a trust center. BAAs and DPAs are available for healthcare and EU customers. Because calls run on Bland's own models, it says customer data never trains other models and never leaves to a third party. Self hosted and on premises deployments are available for the most sensitive workloads, which few rivals offer.

Who it is for

  • Healthcare, insurance, financial services and government teams with regulated calls
  • Enterprises that want one vendor for speech, model, voice and telephony
  • High volume inbound or outbound programs at 20,000+ minutes a month, where Build and Scale rates apply
  • Teams that want the vendor's engineers to build the first agent

Who should skip it

  • Small businesses testing a phone agent; Start caps you at 100 calls a day
  • Developers who want to choose every provider; see Vapi
  • Buyers who need the lowest per minute cost; see Telnyx
  • No code teams that want a visual builder they control alone; Retell is easier to self serve

Verdict

Bland is the most vertically integrated voice agent platform we track: its own models, one bill, deep compliance including on premises options, and engineers who build your first agent. That makes it a strong choice for regulated, high stakes call centers. It is not the cheapest: at $0.11 to $0.14 a minute it runs well above lean itemized stacks, its rates rose in December 2025, and the free tier is too limited for real testing at volume. Choose it when risk matters more than the last cent per minute.
