Telnyx Voice AI Review 2026: Pricing, Features and Verdict
The voice agent platform from a licensed carrier, judged on published pricing, latency, network, builder, compliance and reviews.
By , research by the BestBots team ยท Updated Oct 19, 2026
Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
Telnyx Voice AI has the lowest all in per minute cost we can verify in October 2026: $0.05 a minute covers orchestration, speech to text and text to speech, and Telnyx says a production agent lands near $0.06 with an LLM and telephony. HIPAA is included on every plan and pay as you go allows 500 concurrent calls. The tradeoff is a simpler builder than Retell's.

The lowest all in per minute cost we could verify, about $0.06 with an LLM, plus HIPAA on every plan and 500 concurrent calls on pay as you go. The builder is less polished than Retell's and the Telnyx Trustpilot rating covers the whole carrier business, not the agent product.

What it is
Telnyx is a licensed telecom carrier in 45+ countries that also runs its own GPUs, and Voice AI Agents is its product for building phone agents on that stack. Its pitch is "no Frankenstack": telephony, speech to text, LLM inference, text to speech and orchestration on one platform with one SLA, instead of five vendors.
Because Telnyx originates calls as a carrier rather than relaying through third parties, it offers local caller identity in many markets and A level STIR/SHAKEN attestation on eligible US outbound calls, which helps calls avoid spam labels. Co located GPUs and telephony points of presence are how it claims sub 200 ms responses.

The all in number
Telnyx's own production example is $0.05 voice engine plus $0.0032 telephony plus $0.0064 LLM tokens, about $0.06 a minute, or about $13,700 a month at 230,000 minutes. Add the $0.002 Voice API fee and you are at about $0.062; add recording and about $0.064.
| Minutes a month | At about $0.062 | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | $62 | Pay as you go |
| 10,000 | $620 | Pay as you go |
| 33,000 | $2,046 | Growth minimum starts to make sense |
| 100,000 | $6,200, about $5,300 on Growth discounts | Growth |
| 230,000 | About $14,260 | Telnyx's own example is $13,700 before the platform fee |
Frontier LLMs change the math: a Claude or GPT model at several cents a minute can double the total. Compare on the AI Price Index and in the voice agent cost per minute guide.
Key features
Carrier network
Licensed carrier in 45+ countries, global numbers, SIP trunking, WebRTC, SMS, WhatsApp Business API, branded calling, number reputation and number lookup on the same account. Few voice agent vendors own the phone network underneath.
Models and voices
Telnyx runs open weight models on its own GPUs with OpenAI compatible endpoints, plus managed Anthropic and OpenAI models. For speech it routes to engines including Deepgram, Whisper, AssemblyAI, xAI, Speechmatics and Soniox, and for voices to Telnyx Ultra, ElevenLabs, MiniMax, Resemble AI, AWS and Azure. Telnyx lists 1,400+ voices and 80+ languages and dialects on its product page.
AI Assistant Builder
A no code builder in the Mission Control Portal where you define behavior with natural language instructions and greetings, test in an in browser simulator and deploy in minutes. Developers use the APIs, AgentSDK and code examples. The builder is an instruction editor rather than a visual flow canvas like Retell's.
Observability
One dashboard from call start to finish, with end to end tracing, latency breakdown and transcript playback, so you can see where a slow turn came from without chasing several vendors.
Integrations
An Integrations Hub with 30+ pre built integrations across 13 categories, including CRMs, analytics and automation tools, plus Zapier and SIP trunking.
Other tools
Deepfake detection, Verify API, MeetingBot, embeddings and search APIs, and edge compute primitives such as functions, storage and databases for building around the agent.
What users say
Telnyx holds 3.2 on Trustpilot from 650 reviews, but that rating covers the whole Telnyx carrier business, not the Voice AI product. Recurring complaints include slow account verification. Telnyx's site quotes PatientSync's CTO praising flexibility and performance for AI call flows. There is no separate public rating for the voice agent product with enough reviews to cite.
Privacy and security
Telnyx is SOC 2 Type II certified and says in region infrastructure and carrier licenses support GDPR, PCI and HIPAA compliance wherever you operate, with HIPAA included in every plan. Owning the network and GPUs means call audio and inference can stay on Telnyx infrastructure when you use its hosted models; if you route to Anthropic or OpenAI, their data terms apply too.
Setup
Telnyx is self serve. You sign up, verify your account (some Trustpilot reviewers say verification is slow, so start early), buy or port numbers and build in one of two ways:
- No code: open the AI Assistant Builder in the Mission Control Portal, write instructions and a greeting in plain language, choose the model and voice, connect knowledge and tools, and test in the in browser simulator.
- Code: use Telnyx's APIs, AgentSDK and OpenAI compatible endpoints, which let you move an existing agent without rewriting it.
Then attach the assistant to a number or SIP connection and deploy. Because Telnyx is the carrier, there is no separate Twilio or SIP vendor to configure, and its dashboard traces latency and transcripts across the whole call. Plan a short pilot on real traffic to confirm latency (its pages cite both sub 200 ms and sub 500 ms) and to measure your true per minute cost with the LLM you pick. If you expect more than about $2,000 a month in usage, the Growth plan's 15% discount on voice, messaging and numbers is worth pricing from the start.
Who it is for
- High volume inbound and outbound lines where cents per minute matter
- Healthcare teams that need HIPAA without paying for an add on
- Teams that want carrier, numbers and AI from one vendor
- Developers who want OpenAI compatible endpoints and open weight models on owned GPUs
Who should skip it
- Non technical teams that want a visual flow designer; see Retell AI
- Buyers who need hundreds of native integrations; see Synthflow
- Anyone who weighs vendor wide reviews heavily
- Brands where a specific premium voice matters most; see ElevenLabs Agents
Alternatives
- Retell AI: richer no code builder, about $0.0946 a minute budget stack
- Vapi: developer first, about $0.0818 a minute budget stack
- ElevenLabs Agents: the deepest voice library
- Bland AI: its own models and one all in rate
Compare all of them in best AI voice agents and Vapi alternatives.
Verdict
Telnyx Voice AI is the value leader for phone agents: about $0.06 a minute all in, HIPAA included, 500 concurrent calls on pay as you go and a real carrier network underneath. It falls short on builder polish, integration count and a review record specific to the product, and its own pages disagree on latency. If you have developers and volume, it is the cheapest serious option we track; if you need a visual builder for an operations team, start with Retell.

Pros
- About $0.06 per minute all in, the lowest complete rate published by any platform compared
- HIPAA included on every plan and SOC 2 Type II certified
- 500 concurrent calls on pay as you go, far above Retell's 20 or Vapi's 4
- Owns the network and GPUs, which is how it claims sub 200 ms latency
Cons
- The no code builder is a natural language instruction editor, simpler than Retell's flow canvas
- 30+ prebuilt integrations, fewer than Synthflow's 200+
- Trustpilot reviews (3.2 from 650) cover all of Telnyx and cite slow account verification
- Telnyx pages disagree on specs: the product page says sub 200 ms and 80+ languages, the sign up page says sub 500 ms and 100+ languages
