How Long Do Robot Vacuums Last?
The lifespan brands publish, which parts wear first, a replacement schedule and the signs it is time to replace the robot rather than the battery.

Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
A robot vacuum typically lasts 4 to 6 years, according to Ecovacs, if you replace its wear parts on schedule. eufy cites a more conservative 2 to 4 year industry average. The battery is usually the first thing to go, often in years 2 to 3, and replacing it can add years to a robot that still maps and docks well.
The numbers brands publish
| Source | Lifespan claim | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ecovacs | 4 to 6 years | Depends on build quality, use and maintenance; battery replacement common in years 2 to 3 |
| eufy | 2 to 4 years (industry average) | Cites Consumer Reports, CHOICE and The Spruce; says these are not warranty periods |
| Roborock | Not published | Says proper maintenance significantly extends life |
No brand publishes a tested lifespan or battery cycle count for a specific model. Treat the ranges as rough guides and the warranty as the only guarantee.
What wears out first
- Battery. Runtime shrinks first. When a robot that used to finish the house now docks halfway, the battery is the likely cause.
- Brushes. Hair wraps and bristles wear down, which cuts pickup on carpet.
- Filters. Clogged filters reduce suction and can strain the motor.
- Mop pads and rollers. On combo robots these wear fastest of all.
- Wheels and bumpers. Tires lose grip and bumper switches stick, which shows up as bumping or getting stuck.
- Sensors. Dust on cliff sensors and the LiDAR window causes erratic navigation; usually a cleaning, not a replacement.
Replacement schedule
| Part | Interval | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Dust filter | About every 2 months | Roborock |
| Roller (main) brush | Every 6 to 12 months | Roborock |
| Side brush | Every 3 to 6 months | Ecovacs (Deebot X11) |
| Roller mop | Every 1 to 2 months | Ecovacs (Deebot X11) |
| Water filter (mop models) | Every 1 to 3 months | Roborock support pages |
| Battery | When runtime drops; often years 2 to 3 | Ecovacs |
| Wheels and sensors | Check weekly, clean as needed | Roborock |
Most apps now count hours on each part and remind you. Follow those over a generic table.
How to make a robot vacuum last longer
- Clean the brush weekly. Cut hair off the roller, especially with pets.
- Empty and check the dock bag. An overfull bag stops self emptying and leaves debris in the robot.
- Wipe sensors and charging contacts monthly. Dirty contacts cause failed charging, which wears the battery.
- Keep the dock cool and dry. Roborock advises keeping it out of direct sunlight.
- Store it charged. Ecovacs advises recharging about every 1.5 months if you store the robot.
- Pick up cords and socks. Tangles strain brush motors.
- Update firmware. Updates fix navigation and charging bugs.
Repair or replace
Replace the battery and wear parts if the robot still maps, docks and climbs your thresholds. Replace the robot if the main motor, LiDAR or dock fails out of warranty, if parts are no longer sold, or if the brand drops app support. Before buying, check that the brand sells batteries and brushes for your exact model.
Also weigh what has changed. A 5 year old robot without a self empty dock or camera avoidance is a weaker machine than a current entry model like the Roborock Q7 M5+, which adds LiDAR mapping and a 7 week dock.
Brand stability matters too
A robot needs its app and cloud to keep working. iRobot went through Chapter 11 and became a private company owned by its manufacturer, Picea, in January 2026, and says it is supporting customers; see Is iRobot Still in Business. The FCC's July 2026 action on foreign made robots affects new authorizations, and Consumer Reports explains that existing devices keep working and can get security updates for now.
Our take
Plan on about 4 to 6 years from a major brand robot if you replace parts, budget for one battery along the way and buy from a brand that sells parts directly. Rankings by budget and home are in Best Robot Vacuums and Best Budget Robot Vacuums.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a robot vacuum last?
Most last about 4 to 6 years, per Ecovacs, if you replace the wear parts. eufy cites a more conservative 2 to 4 year industry average. The battery usually fades first, often in years 2 to 3, and a new battery can extend the robot's life.
How long does a Roomba last?
iRobot does not publish a lifespan. Roombas use the same wear parts as other robots: battery, brushes, filters and wheels. iRobot's 2026 ownership change to Picea makes parts and app support worth watching; see our iRobot status page.
How long do Roborock vacuums last?
Roborock does not publish a lifespan figure. Its maintenance guide recommends changing filters about every 2 months and roller brushes every 6 to 12 months, and the app tracks part hours.
How long does a robot vacuum battery last?
Brands do not publish battery life in years. Ecovacs says runtime may drop in years 2 to 3, which is when battery replacement becomes common. Check that your model's battery is user replaceable before you buy.
Is it worth replacing a robot vacuum battery?
Usually, yes, if the robot still navigates and docks well. A battery is a fraction of the cost of a new robot. Replace the robot instead if the LiDAR, motors or dock are failing, or if the brand has stopped app support.
How often should I replace robot vacuum brushes and filters?
Roborock recommends filters about every 2 months and roller brushes every 6 to 12 months. Ecovacs lists side brushes every 3 to 6 months and roller mops every 1 to 2 months for the Deebot X11. Follow your app's reminders.
