Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
Lovable is the best AI app builder for most people who do not write code. Pro costs $25 a month for 100 credits plus 5 daily build credits, every message shows what it costs, hosting and a backend are included, and its 4.2 Trustpilot score from 1,847 reviews leads the group. Pick Replit Agent for heavier backends and mobile apps.
Our top picks
How to choose
An AI app builder is a browser workspace where you describe what you want ("a booking app for my dog grooming business with a calendar and Stripe deposits"), and an AI agent writes the code, runs it in a live preview, fixes errors and publishes it to a URL. Hosted builders bundle four things: the agent, a preview, a database and hosting. That bundle is what separates them from coding agents such as Cursor, which assume you already have a development setup.
Four questions settle most choices:
- What are you building? A marketing site or simple tool fits any of them. An app with logins, payments and stored data points to Lovable or Replit. A design heavy React front end points to v0. A native phone app points to Replit.
- How does it bill you? Credits per message (Lovable), effort per completed task (Replit), dollar credits per token by model (v0) or raw tokens that scale with project size (Bolt.new). The meter matters more than the sticker price.
- Who else is on the project? Lovable has unlimited members on every plan. Bolt.new and v0 charge per user. Replit Pro covers up to 15 collaborators.
- Do you need to leave later? Check GitHub sync and code download before you build anything you plan to keep.

Prices as listed on each vendor's pricing page in October 2026. Compare per seat and per unit rates across the category in the AI Price Index.
Per unit math. Lovable Pro works out to $0.25 a credit on the 100, 200, 400 and 800 credit tiers, falling to $0.225 at 5,000 and 10,000 credits; top ups cost $0.30 a credit. Bolt.new Pro is $2.50 per million tokens. Replit Core is $1 of plan fee per $1 of usage until the included $20 runs out, then pay as you go. v0 prices tokens by model: v0 Mini at $0.20 per million input and $1.20 per million output, up to v0 Max Fast at $10 and $50.
What a feature costs. Lovable publishes examples: changing a button color 0.50 credits, adding sign up and login 1.20 credits, a landing page with 3 generated images 1.70 credits, with Build mode messages running up to about 2.00 credits. At $0.25 a credit, adding login costs about $0.30. Bolt.new and v0 do not publish per feature costs; on v0, a message that reads 50,000 tokens and writes 5,000 on v0 Pro would cost about $0.15 at list rates before caching discounts, and about $0.38 on v0 Max.
Hosting is a second meter. Lovable includes a monthly Cloud grant of 20 credits for hosting and its backend; busy apps can go past it. Replit's monthly credits apply to publishing first: static sites host free with data transfer at $0.05 per GB, autoscale apps cost a $2 a month base plus usage, and always on Reserved VMs start at $15 a month. Bolt.new hosts up to 333k web requests on Free and 1M on Pro. v0 deploys to Vercel.
Credit and token burn
Every builder in this guide has the same top complaint in verified reviews: usage runs out faster than people expect. The reviews describe the same few patterns, and each has a fix.
Fix loops. On Trustpilot, Replit reviewers describe the agent getting stuck repeating error fixes while credits drain, and Bolt.new reviewers describe watching the AI fix its own bugs until the allowance was gone; one reported 212K tokens spent on a small targeted change. At Bolt.new Pro rates that is about $0.53 for one edit. The fix: when the agent fails twice on the same bug, stop, roll back to the last checkpoint and describe the problem differently.
Project size. Bolt.new's docs say most token use comes from reading and syncing your project files, so each message costs more as the app grows. Lovable and Replit price by work done rather than raw tokens, which softens this but does not remove it. The fix: split big apps into smaller projects, and make simple copy or style edits by hand in the code view where the builder allows it (Bolt.new says direct edits in Code view use no tokens).
Pricing changes. v0 reviewers on Trustpilot center on its move to token metered credits and on credits charged for failed attempts; its score is 1.9 from 30 reviews. Lovable reviewers who like the product still name credit limits as the main gripe.
Budget controls compared. Lovable shows the cost of each message, offers auto top up with a monthly spending limit, and stops building at zero rather than charging overage. Replit offers usage alerts and budget limits in settings and a usage dashboard that updates within 30 minutes. v0 shows token prices in its model picker and has a usage dashboard. Bolt.new lets you buy reloads that do not expire but publishes the least about per message cost.
AI app builder vs coding agent
Hosted builders are for people who want the app, not the code. You never install anything, the database is already wired up, and publishing is a button. The tradeoff is that you work inside their workspace and pay their meter for every change.
Coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor and GitHub Copilot work on a codebase you own, on your computer or in your GitHub account. They are cheaper per hour of heavy work and never lock you in, but you handle hosting, databases and deployment yourself. Claude Code's desktop and web apps narrow the gap for non developers, which is why it makes this list, while Cursor and Copilot are covered in our best AI coding agents guide for people who already code.
A common path: prototype in Lovable or Replit, sync the code to GitHub, and continue in a coding agent once the app is real and the builder's credits get expensive.
Red flags
- No visible cost per message. If you cannot see what a change costs before or right after you make it, set a hard budget limit first.
- Rollover that is shorter than it looks. Lovable monthly credits expire two months after issue. Bolt.new rollover tokens last one extra month. v0 monthly credits expire after 65 days. Replit's publishing docs say unused monthly credits do not carry over.
- Paywalled export. Lovable needs a paid plan to edit and download code. Confirm export before you invest weeks in a free plan project.
- Default training on your work. Bolt.new's privacy policy says content created from October 7, 2026 by accounts outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland may be used to train models unless you opt out. Lovable excludes data from training by default on Business and Enterprise and lets Free and Pro users opt out; v0 excludes it on Business and Enterprise or if you opt out in Vercel settings.
- AI written security. The builder can ship an app with weak access rules. Use Lovable's pre publish scan, Replit's Security Agent and v0's server side variable handling, and get a human review before storing customer data.
How we picked
We compared each builder's published pricing, plan limits, credit and token rules, hosting terms, export options and security documentation as listed in October 2026, plus Trustpilot ratings with review counts. Ranking weights fit for a non developer building a first real app: predictable cost, bundled hosting and backend, export, team pricing and verified user sentiment. We did not grade on demo output. Scores follow our scoring method, and prices feed the AI Price Index. For head to head detail see Lovable vs Bolt.new, Replit Agent vs Lovable and Lovable vs v0.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI app builder?
For most people who do not code, Lovable. It starts at $25 a month, shows the credit cost of each message, bundles hosting and a backend, and has by far the best review signal of the group (4.2 on Trustpilot from 1,847 reviews). Replit Agent is the better pick if your app needs heavier backend work, scheduled jobs or a native mobile app.
What are vibe coding tools?
Vibe coding tools let you describe an app in plain language and have an AI agent write, run and fix the code. Hosted builders such as Lovable, Replit Agent, Bolt.new and v0 also handle the preview, database and publishing. Coding agents such as Claude Code and Cursor work on code you own and suit people willing to learn a little more.
Which AI app builder is free?
All four hosted builders have a free plan. Bolt.new gives the most free building at 1M tokens a month with a 300K daily cap. Lovable gives 5 build credits a day up to 30 a month. v0 allows 7 messages a day. Replit Starter gives daily Agent credits up to a monthly cap and one published app that goes down after 30 days.
Why do AI app builders burn through credits so fast?
Most cost comes from the agent reading and changing your project, and that grows as the app grows. Bolt.new says outright that larger projects use more tokens per message because the file system syncs to the AI. Fix loops are the other drain: when the agent breaks something and then repairs it, you pay for both steps. Reviews on all four platforms name this as the main complaint.
Can I build a mobile app with an AI app builder?
Replit is the clearest option: its docs cover building native iOS and Android apps with Expo and previewing them on your phone. Lovable, Bolt.new and v0 build web apps that work in a phone browser. If an App Store listing is the goal, start on Replit or plan to hand the code to a developer.
Do I own the code an AI app builder writes?
Generally yes, but check export terms. Lovable syncs to GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket on every plan, though editing and downloading code need a paid plan. v0 creates GitHub branches and pull requests and says users keep ownership of generated code. Replit and Bolt.new projects can be connected to GitHub. Claude Code works directly in your own repository.
Is Lovable or Replit better for beginners?
Lovable is easier for a first project: the builder is simpler, Plan mode lets you agree on an approach for 1 credit a message, and the cost of each change is visible. Replit gives more power, including databases, connectors, scheduled deployments and mobile apps, but effort based billing makes the monthly total harder to predict.
How much does it cost to build an app with AI?
A simple app or site can fit inside a $20 to $25 monthly plan. Lovable's examples put a landing page with 3 generated images at 1.70 credits, about $0.43 at Pro's $0.25 a credit. Costs climb with app size, fix loops and hosting traffic, so set a budget cap: Lovable has auto top up limits and Replit has usage alerts and budget limits.
Are AI app builders safe for real customer data?
They can be with care. Replit holds SOC 2 Type II and scans before deployment, Lovable runs a security scan before every publish and supports SOC 2 and GDPR requirements, Vercel (v0) holds SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001, and Bolt.new lists SOC 2 Type 2. The bigger risk is app logic the AI wrote, such as missing access rules, so run the built in scans and have someone review auth before launch.
