How Much Does a Robot Lawn Mower Cost?

The purchase range, every cost after the box, a five year ownership estimate against a lawn service and what each extra dollar buys.

By , research by the BestBots team · Updated Oct 19, 2026

Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score

A robot lawn mower costs about $800 to more than $2,500 to buy, according to Consumer Reports' September 2026 ratings, with bigger lawns, all wheel drive and LiDAR or RTK navigation at the top. Over five years, add blades, likely a battery and any cellular plan. A weekly lawn service at $45 to $75 per visit costs more than that in most seasons.

Why we cite a range, not prices

Most robot mowers are sold on Amazon, and Amazon's rules prohibit us from showing their prices; retail prices also change weekly. So this page uses the category range Consumer Reports publishes and explains what moves a mower up or down it. Every model we review links to its current price.

What moves the price

Factor Lower end Higher end
Lawn size 0.2 to 0.37 acre (eufy E15, Navimow i2 LiDAR) 1 to 6 acres (Navimow X4, Yarbo)
Navigation Cameras only (eufy E15) or boundary wire LiDAR plus RTK plus vision (Luba 3)
Drive and slope 18° to 45% slope ratings AWD or 4WD, 70% to 84% slopes
Obstacle detection Basic vision 200 to 300+ object types
Extras App only 4G, live video, modules (Yarbo snow and leaf)

Costs after the box

Cost Who it applies to Notes
Installation Wired models Wire free models self install in an app; wired Husqvarna models are often dealer installed
Cellular plan Some brands after a free period Navimow Connect+ free 1 or 2 years on the X4, then yearly; Mammotion 4G free 3 years on the Luba 3; eufy recommends 4G if Wi-Fi does not reach
RTK service RTK models Worx RTK Cloud is lifetime free; LiDAR and camera models need none
Blades Every model The main recurring cost; the YUKA mini 2 ships with a spare set of 6
Battery Every model, eventually The big cost over five or more years; Worx's 20V PowerShare battery is shared with its tools
Garage or cover Optional The YUKA mini 2 1000H includes a Garage mini
Trimmer Most yards Many robots do not cut tight to fences, per Consumer Reports
Electricity Every model Small; a robot recharges a battery of under 100 Wh on the eufy E15

Five year cost against a lawn service

Use your own quote for the robot. Here is the service side, using Lawn Love's October 2026 figures:

Mowing season Low ($45 per visit) Average ($60) High ($75)
26 weeks $1,170 $1,560 $1,950
30 weeks $1,350 $1,800 $2,250
36 weeks $1,620 $2,160 $2,700
5 years at 30 weeks $6,750 $9,000 $11,250

Set that against the robot's price, plus blades each season, one battery over five years and any cellular plan after the free period. Even at the top of Consumer Reports' range, replacing a weekly service usually pays back within two or three seasons. If you mow yourself, the robot buys time rather than saving money.

Installation, in more detail

Wire free robots set up like an app: place the base station on level ground near power, walk or drive the boundary with your phone, mark no go zones and let it run. Expect an afternoon.

Wired robots need a boundary wire pegged or buried around the lawn and every bed. Husqvarna offers professional installation through its dealers; it does not list a price on its lineup page. The wire also needs repair if you cut it while edging or aerating.

What each extra dollar buys

  • From small to mid: more area per charge and better navigation under trees.
  • From mid to AWD: slope ratings of 70% to 84% and obstacle crossing; see Robot Mowers on Hills.
  • From mid to large: 1 to 6 acres and longer runtime.

If your lawn is small and flat, you do not need the top of the range. Our small yard picks cover lawns up to 0.37 acre.

Our take

Budget for the purchase plus about one battery and a few sets of blades over five years, and check whether your brand charges for cellular after year one or two. If you currently pay for mowing, the numbers favor a robot on most simple lawns. Rankings: Best Robot Lawn Mowers. Decision help: Are Robot Lawn Mowers Worth It.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a robot lawn mower cost?

Consumer Reports puts the robotic mowers in its ratings at about $800 to more than $2,500 as of September 2026. Larger lawns, all wheel drive and LiDAR or RTK navigation push the price up. Check each model's current price at the retailer.

Why doesn't BestBots list robot mower prices?

Most robot mowers are sold on Amazon, whose rules prohibit us from showing prices, and retail prices change daily. We cite the category range from Consumer Reports and link each model to its current price.

How much does robot mower installation cost?

Wire free mowers like the Navimow i2 LiDAR, eufy E15 and Mammotion Luba 3 map the lawn in an app, so most owners install them themselves. Wired models like the Husqvarna 435X AWD need a boundary wire, often installed by a dealer; Husqvarna offers professional installation but did not list a price on its page.

Do robot mowers have subscription fees?

Some do after a free period. Navimow's Connect+ cellular features are free for 1 or 2 years on the X4, then renew yearly; Mammotion includes 3 years of 4G on the Luba 3; eufy recommends a 4G plan when Wi-Fi does not reach the yard. Worx RTK Cloud is lifetime free.

Is a robot mower cheaper than a lawn service?

Usually, within two to three seasons. Weekly service at Lawn Love's $45 to $75 per visit is $1,350 to $2,250 over 30 weeks, which covers most of the Consumer Reports price range in one season. Add blades, a battery and any cellular plan to the robot side.

What do more expensive robot mowers get you?

More area, steeper slope ratings, all wheel drive and better navigation. Moving up from a small camera only mower like the eufy E15 (0.2 acre, 18 degrees) to an AWD model like the Mammotion Luba 3 gets you up to 1.25 acres, 80% slopes and LiDAR plus RTK.
