Head to head scenarios

A support focused server

Winner: Dyno. Free tickets and forms mean one bot covers support and moderation.

A role menu heavy community

Winner: Carl-bot. 250 free pairs with verify, unique and temporary modes.

Small mod team, little time

Winner: Dyno. Module toggles and automod defaults get you protected fastest.

Mod team that needs evidence trails

Winner: Carl-bot. Split logs and full infraction history.

Free Twitch alerts

Winner: Carl-bot. 2 Twitch and 5 YouTube alerts on free; Dyno keeps integrations on its Premium plan.

Running both, or switching

Many servers end up with both bots. The clean split is Dyno for moderation, automod, tickets and forms, and Carl-bot for reaction roles, logs and suggestions. To avoid conflicts:

  1. Turn automod on in one bot only, or split rule types (Dyno for spam and links, Carl-bot for slurs and attachments), so members are not punished twice for one message.
  2. Pick one bot for welcome messages.
  3. Keep mod logs in one bot and message logs in the other, each in its own channel.
  4. Put both bot roles below your admin roles and above member roles.

If you are switching from Carl-bot to Dyno, rebuild reaction role menus first, because Dyno's 3 free menus may force you to merge them or pay for Standard. If you are switching from Dyno to Carl-bot, plan a new home for tickets and forms, since Carl-bot does not list either; Ticket Tool or Tickets fill that gap for free.

Privacy

Both need moderation and role permissions. Carl-bot's invite requests a broad set but not Administrator. Dyno links a privacy policy and privacy choices page; BotLabs publishes a GDPR notice for Carl-bot. Neither replaces a dedicated anti nuke bot; add Wick for raid protection.

Verdict

Dyno is the better default: more free features that most servers need, cheaper premium and a better rating. Carl-bot is the specialist for reaction roles and logging, and it is common to run both. Full details in the Dyno review and Carl-bot review.

Frequently asked questions

Is Carl-bot better than Dyno?

For reaction roles and detailed logging, yes. Carl-bot gives 250 reaction role pairs free and splits logs across channels. Dyno is better for most other servers: free automod, tickets and forms, a simpler dashboard, cheaper annual premium and a higher top.gg score.

Which is cheaper, Dyno or Carl-bot?

Dyno for one server: Standard is $5.99 a month or $49.99 a year, against Carl-bot's $7.99 a month. Carl-bot gets cheaper per server on multi server Patreon tiers, down to $4.50 a server at 8 servers.

Do Dyno and Carl-bot have leveling?

Both, but only on paid plans. Dyno lists Levels on Standard at $5.99 a month, and Carl-bot lists levels and XP on Premium at $7.99. For free leveling with role rewards use Arcane.

Which has better automod?

Both are strong. Dyno's free automod covers spam, links, bad words and mentions and adds autoban rules on join. Carl-bot's covers bad links, spam, mass mentions, attachment spam and slurs with per rule punishments, and its Premium Drama Watcher sends incidents to a mod channel.

Can I use Dyno and Carl-bot together?

Yes. A common setup is Dyno for automod, tickets and forms, and Carl-bot for reaction roles and logs. Disable overlapping automod rules in one bot so members are not punished twice.

Which is easier to set up?

Dyno. Every module is a toggle on its dashboard. Carl-bot's dashboard is capable, but log routing, reaction role modes and TagScript commands take more learning.

Which is better for a Twitch streamer's server?

Carl-bot on a budget, since it includes 2 Twitch and 5 YouTube alerts free. Dyno needs its Premium plan ($7.99 a month or $59.99 a year) for Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit and Kick integrations. For the widest alert list, MEE6 covers ten sources.
