What each limit means in practice
Credits. HeyGen calls credits its "single currency for video and asset creation." Usage varies with the model (standard avatar, Avatar IV photo avatar, digital twin), the length of the video and the complexity of the job. In practice, short standard avatar videos stretch a plan furthest, and Avatar IV and translation use the most.
Max length. This is per video. A 45 minute training module needs Business; Creator caps each video at 30 minutes.
Resolution. 4K starts on Pro. For YouTube and ads, 1080p on Creator is fine; for big screens or heavy cropping, Pro.
Custom avatars. Your digital twins. Business includes 5+ for a team of presenters.
Seats. Business charges $20 per seat on top of $149. A 3 person team pays $149 + $60 = $209 per month.
Annual vs monthly
The pricing page shows Creator at $24 per month on annual billing, saving $60 a year over monthly. HeyGen says annual subscriptions are billed once a year at a lower effective monthly rate and come with better credit rollover. Annual prices for Pro and Business were not printed on the page we read; check the toggle at checkout.
Hidden costs
- No published credit rate. Budget by testing your typical script on Creator for a month.
- Top ups need Business. Creator and Pro users who run out must upgrade.
- Seat fees. Business adds $20 per seat.
- API is separate. API usage is billed in dollars by engine and length.
Worked examples
Solo creator, 8 short videos a month with a digital twin. Creator at $29, or $24 billed yearly, if each video is a few minutes of standard avatar. Move to Pro if you want 4K or start using Avatar IV heavily.
Marketing team of 3 localizing 10 ads a month into 4 languages. 40 translated videos is heavy credit use. Business at $209 a month (with 2 extra seats) gives 1,500 credits and the option to buy packs.
Course creator publishing a 40 minute module. Business is the only self serve plan with videos over 30 minutes.
How it compares
HeyGen's Creator and Synthesia Starter are both $29 per month. Synthesia publishes its rate (100 credits per minute after 10 included minutes, so about 22 minutes on Starter) and is cheaper on yearly billing ($18), but tops out at 1080p. HeyGen offers 4K at $49, where Synthesia's next tier is $89 and still 1080p. Descript bundles AI avatars inside an editor from $24 per month ($16 yearly).
