The best robot vacuum for most homes is the Roborock Saros 20: 36,000 Pa suction, 300+ obstacle types, a 212°F mop washing dock, 3.46 inch threshold climbing and Matter support in a 3.14 inch body. Pick the Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete for very low furniture, and the Roborock Q7 M5+ if you want a capable budget robot.
Our top picks
How to choose
Start with your floors and your clutter, not with suction numbers.
- Carpet or hard floors. Mostly carpet: favor suction and carpet design (Saros 20, Roomba Max 875, Dreame X60). Mostly hard floors: favor the mop (Narwal Flow 2, Qrevo Curv 2 Flow, eufy E35).
- Clutter and pets. If socks, cords or pet waste end up on the floor, buy camera based obstacle avoidance. Every flagship here has it. The budget LiDAR robots do not.
- Clearance. Measure under your sofa and bed. The Dreame X60 (3.13 in) and Roborock Saros models (3.14 in) fit where 3.9 to 4.7 inch robots do not.
- Thresholds. Older homes with tall sills need climbing: the Dreame X60 (3.47 in double steps) and Saros 20 (3.46 in).
- Maintenance tolerance. A full dock that empties, washes and dries the mop is the difference between a robot you babysit and one you forget about.
- Smart home. Matter works today on the Saros 20 and Dreame X60; Roborock promises it by update on other models.

What it costs
We do not list robot prices. These products sell through Amazon and brand stores, and prices change daily. Use the buttons on each pick to see the current price on the exact model.
What we can compare is the cost of owning one:
| Robot | Dust capacity | Bagless | Mop type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roborock Saros 20 | Up to 65 days | No | Spinning pads |
| Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete | 100 days, 3.2 L | No | Thermal pads |
| eufy Omni E35 | About 60 days | No | Roller |
| Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow | About 65 days | No | Roller |
| Narwal Flow 2 | 120 days, 2.5 L | No | Track mop |
| Roborock Saros Z70 | About 60 days | No | Spinning pads |
| iRobot Roomba Max 875 Combo | Up to 90 days | No | Roller |
| Ecovacs Deebot X12S OmniCyclone | Bagless | Yes | Roller |
| Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal | 60 days | No | Vibrating pad |
| Roborock Q7 M5+ | About 7 weeks | No | Pad, no wash |
Bags, mop pads or rollers, brushes, filters and cleaning solution are the recurring costs. A longer bag interval and a bagless dock cut them.
Roller mops vs spinning pads
This is the biggest design split in 2026.
- Spinning pads (Saros 20, Saros Z70, Dreame X60) press two round pads into the floor and go back to the dock to be washed. Their advantage: the robot can drop the pads before vacuuming carpet, so rugs never get wet. The tradeoff: between washes, the pads carry dirt.
- Rollers and track mops (Qrevo Curv 2 Flow, eufy E35, Narwal Flow 2, Roomba Max 875, Ecovacs X12S) are rinsed and scraped continuously while the robot works, so the mopping surface stays clean all run. The tradeoff: they lift on carpet rather than detaching, by 10 to 15 mm depending on model.
If you mop every day on hard floors, choose a roller or track mop. If you have a lot of rugs and mop weekly, pads with auto removal are fine.
Spec glossary
- Pa (pascals). Suction pressure. Over about 10,000 Pa handles hard floors; carpet benefits from more. Brands test their own way.
- AW (air watts). A different suction measure that Ecovacs uses. Not convertible to Pa.
- LiDAR, DToF, LDS. Laser navigation that maps rooms accurately, in the dark.
- Structured light and RGB camera. How robots see small objects; the object count (108 to 300+) tells you how many types the software recognizes.
- Double layer threshold. A two step sill, such as a door frame plus a rug. Higher climbing numbers mean fewer stuck robots.
- Matter. A smart home standard that lets one app control devices across brands.
The 2026 FCC rule
On July 28, 2026, the FCC added foreign produced advanced robotic devices to its Covered List. The category includes robot vacuums, robot vacuum and mop combos and robotic lawn mowers, defined as mobile devices over 4.4 lbs including the dock. Consumer Reports explains what it means for buyers:
- Robots you already own keep working.
- Retailers can keep selling models that were already FCC authorized.
- New models need conditional government approval before they can be sold.
- Authorized devices can keep getting updates that protect consumers until January 1, 2029.
Every robot in this guide was already on sale before the rule, so you can buy any of them today. Consumer Reports also points out that the approval process asks about supply chains, not about encryption or what happens to your data, so the rule is not a privacy rating. Check each brand's privacy settings yourself.
Red flags
- No object recognition on a flagship. If a premium robot only lists LiDAR, it will run over cords and pet waste.
- Suction with no unit, or a Pa figure that differs between the brand and the listing. The Roomba Max 875's Amazon title says 40,000 Pa while iRobot's release says 35,000 Pa. Trust the manufacturer's spec page.
- Runtime claims in the best possible mode. "Up to" runtimes are usually Quiet mode on hard floors. Plan on less.
- Discontinued models at a discount. The eufy X10 Pro Omni, Ecovacs X8 Pro Omni and Narwal Freo Z Ultra no longer have live product pages on their brands' US stores. Parts and support for older models will dry up first.
- Company risk. iRobot filed for Chapter 11 in December 2025. It is still shipping new robots, but weigh long term support.
How we picked
We started from the robot vacuums that rank at the top of Google for "best robot vacuum" in October 2026 (Vacuum Wars, RTINGS, CNN Underscored, WIRED and others) and the current lineups on each brand's US store. When a commonly reviewed model had been replaced, we recorded the current model: Qrevo Curv to Qrevo Curv 2 Flow, Roomba Combo 10 Max to Roomba Max 875 Combo, Dreame X50 Ultra to X60 Max Ultra Complete, eufy X10 Pro Omni to Omni E35, Ecovacs X8 Pro Omni to X12S OmniCyclone, Narwal Freo Z Ultra to Flow 2, and Shark PowerDetect to the PowerDetect UV Reveal.
Every spec comes from the brand's own product or spec page, which we opened for this guide. Ratings come from the exact Amazon listing we link, with the count shown. We do not test robots ourselves; we compare published facts. Ranking is editorial: best fit for most readers on the verified specs, weighted toward suction, obstacle recognition, dock automation, clearance and company stability. Scores are explained on how we score.
Frequently asked questions
Does the 2026 FCC ban affect robot vacuums?
Yes, for new models only. On July 28, 2026 the FCC added foreign produced advanced robotic devices, including robot vacuums, to its Covered List. Consumer Reports explains that already authorized models can still be sold and used, new models need conditional approval, and authorized devices can keep getting updates until January 1, 2029.
What is the best robot vacuum in 2026?
On published specs, the Roborock Saros 20: 36,000 Pa, 300+ obstacle types, a 212°F dock, 3.46 in threshold climbing and Matter support. The Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete is a close second and is better for low furniture.
What is the best robot vacuum for carpet?
The iRobot Roomba Max 875 Combo has a SealForce skirt built for carpet and 35,000 Pa. The Roborock Saros 20 has more suction at 36,000 Pa and higher threshold climbing. Either works; the Roborock carries less company risk.
What is the best robot vacuum for hardwood floors?
For hardwood you want a mop that will not leave puddles. The Narwal Flow 2 and the Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow both rinse their mops during the run. For vacuum only on hardwood, any LiDAR robot from the budget list works well.
Do I need obstacle avoidance on a robot vacuum?
If you have pets, kids or cables on the floor, yes. Camera based avoidance that recognizes pet waste is the single feature that prevents the worst robot vacuum disasters. Budget LiDAR robots avoid large objects but not socks or cords.
Is a self emptying robot vacuum worth it?
Yes for most homes. Robot bins are small, often 235 to 500 ml. A self empty dock holds 45 to 150 days of debris, so you go from emptying a bin every run to swapping a bag a few times a year.
What does Pa mean on a robot vacuum?
Pascals, a unit of suction pressure. Higher numbers pull harder, which matters most on carpet. Brands measure it their own way, so treat Pa as a rough guide. Ecovacs rates the X12S in air watts instead, which is not directly comparable.
Why do you not list prices?
These robots are sold through Amazon, and Amazon prices change daily and by seller. We link to the exact product page so you see the current price there.
Which robot vacuum brands are best?
Roborock and Dreame lead on published specs in our guide. eufy leads on published runtime, Narwal on mopping and quiet operation, Ecovacs on bagless docks, Shark on stain detection and iRobot on carpet design.
