The volume discount is small: 10,000 Pro credits cost 10% less per credit than 100. Annual billing (two months free) saves about 17% at every tier, which beats moving up a tier.
What the limits mean
Daily build credits. 5 a day on every plan. Free caps them at 30 a month; paid plans have no cap, so someone who builds daily gets about 150 extra credits a month, more than the 100 credit Pro tier itself. They reset at 00:00 UTC and do not accumulate.
Plan mode vs Build mode. Plan mode is 1 credit a message plus any research subagents. Build mode varies with complexity; Lovable's examples run from 0.50 to about 2.00 credits a message.
Grants vs general credits. Lovable spends usage specific grants first (daily build, daily chat, the 20 credit Cloud grant, the 4 credit AI grant and a 1 credit connector grant), then the general credits closest to expiry.
Expiry. Monthly plan credits expire two months after issue. Top ups last 12 months. Grants never roll over.
At zero. Building stops instead of billing overage. Chats continue while the daily allowance lasts. If Cloud or AI balances hit zero, backend services pause and in app AI calls fail, but data is kept.
Hidden costs
- Hosting and backend at scale. Busy apps go past the 20 credit Cloud grant and start drawing on your general credits.
- AI features in your app. A chatbot or summarizer inside your app bills AI Gateway usage by model, tokens and call volume, after the 4 credit grant.
- Connectors. Managed connectors such as Perplexity and Firecrawl bill per request after a 1 credit grant.
- Top ups cost more than tiers. $15 per 50 credits is $0.30 a credit on Pro, 20% more than the plan rate. If you top up every month, move up a tier.
- Business per credit premium. Business credits cost twice as much per credit at the low tiers. You are paying for SSO, audit logs and default training exclusion.
- Code editing paywall. Editing and downloading code need Pro.
Worked examples
Solo founder, MVP in a month. Pro at $25 gives 100 credits plus up to about 150 daily credits. Spending 60 credits planning, 150 on feature builds at around 1.20 to 1.70 each, and 40 on small fixes fits inside the plan if you log in most days. Total: $25.
Agency with five people. One Pro workspace at 400 credits for $100 a month, plus daily credits, shared by all five with per member limits. On a per seat builder at $30 a member, the same team would cost $150 before usage.
Heavy builder. Someone using 1,000 credits a month is better on the 1,200 tier at $294 than on 800 credits plus four top ups ($200 + $60 = $260 for 1,000). Here, top ups win narrowly; at 1,200 credits the tier wins.
Student. 50% off the 100 credit Pro tier for up to 12 months: $12.50 a month.
