Lovable is the best AI app builder for most people who do not code. Pro starts at $25 a month for 100 credits plus 5 free build credits a day, every message shows its credit cost, a built in backend and hosting are included, and unlimited members can share one plan. The tradeoffs: large apps burn credits, and code editing needs a paid plan.

By Lovable Labs

Lovable is the most approachable way for a non developer to ship a working web app: Pro starts at $25 a month for 100 credits plus 5 daily build credits, and plans are priced by credits with unlimited workspace members. The tradeoff is that complex apps can eat credits quickly, and code editing and download need a paid plan.

What it is

Lovable is a chat based builder from Lovable Labs. You describe an app or website in plain language, and its agent writes a full stack web app, runs it in a live preview and publishes it to a URL. You keep refining by chatting ("add a login page", "make the pricing table match our brand colors") or by using visual edits on the preview.

The pieces that come with every workspace:

  • Plan mode and Build mode. Plan mode is a conversation about what to build and how, without touching code. Build mode makes the changes.
  • Lovable Cloud. A built in backend on Supabase's open source foundation: database tables, auth, file storage, edge functions, scheduled jobs, emails and secrets.
  • Publishing. Hosting on Lovable with custom domains on paid plans.
  • Git sync. GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket on every plan.
  • Desktop and mobile apps, a Slack app, a ChatGPT app and an MCP server listed in its integrations docs.

It is a web app builder. There is no native iOS or Android build, so a phone app means a mobile friendly web app.

Pricing explained

Lovable prices by credits, not seats. Every plan includes unlimited workspace members.

Plan Price Credits Key limits
Free $0 5 build credits a day, capped at 30 a month No code editing, no custom domain, community support
Pro From $25 a month ($250 a year) 100 to 10,000 a month, plus 5 daily build credits with no monthly cap Code editing and download, custom domains, rollovers, top ups
Business From $50 a month ($500 a year) 100 to 10,000 a month, plus 5 daily SSO, role based access, security center, audit logs, training opt out by default
Enterprise Custom Volume based, no daily or monthly grants SCIM, publishing domain controls, data exports, dedicated support

Every plan, Free included, also gets a daily chat allowance, a 20 credit monthly Cloud grant for hosting and the backend, 4 monthly AI credits for AI features inside your app, and 1 connector credit. Prices as listed in Lovable's docs in October 2026.

Pro tiers. 100 credits $25, 200 $50, 400 $100, 800 $200, 1,200 $294, 2,000 $480, 3,000 $705, 4,000 $920, 5,000 $1,125, 7,500 $1,688 and 10,000 $2,250 a month. That is $0.25 a credit up to 800 credits, easing to $0.225 at the top tiers. Business tiers cost twice as much per credit at the low end ($0.50) and $0.43 at 10,000 credits.

Top ups. $15 per 50 credits on Pro ($0.30 a credit) and $30 per 50 on Business, valid 12 months. Auto top up can trigger at a threshold with an optional monthly spending cap.

Expiry. Monthly plan credits expire two months after issue on monthly plans. Grants (daily build, Cloud, AI) refresh and never roll over. Lovable spends grants first, then the general credits closest to expiry.

Worked example. A solo founder on Pro at $25 who logs in every day gets 100 plan credits plus up to about 150 daily build credits over 30 days. At Lovable's own examples, that covers roughly 200 small edits at 0.50 to 1.20 credits each, or fewer if many messages are full feature builds. A five person team on the same $25 plan shares that pool; most teams move to the 400 credit tier at $100.

Full plan math is on our Lovable pricing page, and cross category rates are in the Price Index.

Key features

Plan mode

Plan mode costs 1 credit a message and lets you agree on screens, data and steps before the agent writes code. For non developers this is the single biggest credit saver, because a wrong first build is what triggers expensive fix loops.

Visible credit cost per message

Lovable publishes per message examples and shows usage as you work. Its examples: 0.50 credits for a button color, 0.90 to remove a footer, 1.20 to add sign up and login, 1.70 for a landing page with 3 generated images. Few builders tell you what a feature costs; this is a real advantage.

Lovable Cloud backend

The backend comes with the workspace. You can view tables, edit records, review security policies and restore backups from inside Lovable, plus manage auth, storage buckets, edge functions, scheduled jobs and secrets. The 20 credit monthly grant covers most small apps; Lovable says apps with significant traffic or size start incurring cost.

AI features inside your app

The AI Gateway lets your app call AI models (a chatbot, summaries, image generation), billed from AI credits by model, tokens and call volume. Managed connectors such as Perplexity and Firecrawl are billed the same way.

Security scanning

A basic scan runs automatically before each publish (10 to 15 seconds), and a deep scan of the full codebase takes about 3 minutes on demand. Admins can auto fix non critical findings and block publishing on critical ones. Business adds a security center and audit logs.

Team controls

Unlimited members on every plan, per member credit limits, and on Business: SSO, role based access, design templates, internal publishing, preview link controls and the Lovable API.

What users say

On Trustpilot, Lovable scores 4.2 from 1,847 reviews, the strongest rating of any app builder we track. About 68% of reviews are 5 star and 17% are 1 star.

Recurring praise: an interface non developers can use on day one, finished projects in days rather than weeks, clean default designs and an agent that follows plain language instructions well.

Recurring complaints: credits running out before substantial work is done (the most common), freezing and blank preview bugs, billing problems, support replies that read as automated for paid users, and frustration when the underlying model changes. Reviewers note cost criticism has increased in recent weeks.

For comparison, Replit scores 2.8 from 1,560 reviews, v0 1.9 from 30 and Bolt.new 1.6 from 204.

Privacy and security

  • Training: On Business and Enterprise, prompts and code are excluded from AI model training by default. Free and Pro users can opt out in account settings.
  • Data residency: Customer data is hosted in Lovable Cloud in supported regions including the EU, US and Asia Pacific, and does not cross regions by default. Enterprise adds EU inference.
  • Compliance: Lovable says it supports SOC 2 and GDPR requirements, with documentation for enterprise review and a trust center listing subprocessors.
  • Access: SAML, OIDC and SCIM with Okta and Azure AD on higher plans; role based permissions are enforced server side.
  • Infrastructure: Web application firewall controls, encrypted storage, network isolation and rate limiting. Lovable says it does not access your repositories or production infrastructure.

Who it is for

  • Non developers building a first web app, internal tool or MVP
  • Founders who want to validate an idea in days with real logins and data
  • Teams, classes and agencies that want one subscription shared by many people
  • Anyone who wants to see the cost of each change before committing

Who should skip it

  • You need a native mobile app. Look at Replit Agent, which builds iOS and Android apps with Expo.
  • You want the most free building. Bolt.new gives 1M tokens a month free versus Lovable's 30 credits.
  • You are a developer who wants full control. A coding agent such as Claude Code works on your own repo with no builder meter.
  • You are building a large, complex app. Credit costs climb with fix loops; plan for the 400 credit tier or a hand off to code.

Alternatives

  • Replit Agent: more backend power, scheduled jobs and mobile apps, from $20 with $20 of usage included
  • v0: polished Next.js front ends that deploy to Vercel, $30 per user
  • Bolt.new: the largest free allowance and a $25 Pro with 10M tokens

Verdict

Lovable is the AI app builder we recommend first to people who do not code. It matches rivals on price at $25, beats them on team cost with unlimited members, tells you what each change costs, and bundles a real backend and pre publish security scan. Its weaknesses are the category's weaknesses: big apps and fix loops burn credits, and monthly credits expire after two months. Start on Free, use Plan mode before every big change, set an auto top up cap, and move to Pro when you need code editing or a custom domain. Our full ranking is in best AI app builders.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lovable free?

Yes, there is a free plan with 5 build credits a day, capped at 30 a month, plus a daily chat allowance, a 20 credit monthly Cloud grant for hosting and 4 AI credits. Free projects can sync to GitHub but you cannot edit code directly, use a custom domain or download code without a paid plan.

How much does Lovable cost?

Pro starts at $25 a month for 100 credits and scales in tiers to $2,250 a month for 10,000 credits. Annual billing gives two months free ($250 a year for 100 credits). Business starts at $50 a month for 100 credits. Enterprise is custom. Students get 50% off Pro for up to 12 months.

How many credits does Lovable use per message?

It varies with the work. Plan mode costs 1 credit per message plus any research subagents. Build mode examples from Lovable's docs: 0.50 credits to change a button color, 0.90 to remove a footer, 1.20 to add sign up and login, 1.70 for a landing page with 3 generated images, with Build messages running up to about 2.00 credits.

Do Lovable credits roll over?

Partly. Monthly plan credits roll over but expire two months after they are issued on monthly plans. Top up credits last 12 months. Daily build credits, the daily chat allowance and the monthly Cloud and AI grants refresh and do not roll over.

What happens when I run out of Lovable credits?

Building stops, chats continue while the daily allowance lasts, and in progress work pauses so you can resume later. If your app uses Cloud or AI features and those balances run out, backend services pause and AI calls fail, though your data stays safe. Daily allowances refresh at 00:00 UTC.

Is Lovable good for beginners?

Yes, it is the easiest builder in our rankings for a first app. Plan mode lets you agree on an approach before code changes, each message shows its credit cost, and hosting, database, auth and storage come built in through Lovable Cloud.

Does Lovable use Supabase?

Lovable Cloud is built on Supabase's open source foundation and gives you a database, auth, storage and edge functions without a separate account. Existing projects using the external Supabase integration keep working, and new projects can choose either.

Can I export my code from Lovable?

Yes. GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket sync is available on every plan, and paid plans add direct code editing and download. That means you can move the project to a coding agent or a developer later.

Is Lovable worth it?

For a non developer validating an idea or building an internal tool, usually yes: $25 a month covers a lot of small changes, and the team pricing is the best in the category. It gets expensive on large apps with long fix loops, which is the main complaint in its reviews.
