What each limit means in practice
Free. Enough to use Comet as your daily browser: Perplexity search in the address bar, the Assistant panel on any tab, summaries, voice mode, shortcuts and actions on websites. Perplexity describes the free search plan as "good for limited daily usage" and "better for simple questions," so expect to hit limits if you run many complex Assistant tasks a day.
Comet Plus. This is not an AI upgrade. It pays participating publishers for human visits, citations and agent actions on their sites, and gives you and your assistant access to their premium content. Perplexity says it distributes the revenue to publishers minus a small share for compute.
Pro. Perplexity's FAQ says Pro "raises every limit" and adds Computer, premium sources like PitchBook and Statista, and model choice per query. For Comet users, Pro means fewer limit messages and a better Perplexity engine behind the address bar. It does not get the "advanced models powering Comet Assistant" row, which is Max only.
Max. Built for heavy, sustained work. For Comet, the headline is the advanced Assistant models. You also get higher Deep Research, file upload and asset generation limits and more video creation.
Annual vs monthly
Perplexity's public pricing page lists only annual prices for Pro and Max. A year of Pro costs $204 at $17 per month; a year of Max costs $2,004 at $167 per month. Month to month prices appear at checkout.
Hidden costs
- Computer credits. Perplexity Computer, the autonomous agent, runs on credits. Pro comes with 4,000 bonus credits; Max adds 10,000 per month. Heavy Computer users buy more.
- The Max jump. Going from Pro to Max for better Assistant models is a $150 per month step on annual billing.
- Comet Plus stacking. If you are on Pro or Max, do not buy Comet Plus separately; it is included.
