ChatGPT agent, now ChatGPT Work, costs $20 per month for full access on ChatGPT Plus. Free and Go ($8) include limited Work in the desktop app, and Pro at $100, $200 or $500 per month buys longer sessions, the always on Dot agent and faster models. Usage comes from one pool shared with Codex, and OpenAI publishes ranges rather than fixed task counts.

What each limit means in practice
One shared allowance. ChatGPT Work "follows the same usage structure as Codex," and the Codex pricing page says Work usage "uses the same pricing, credits, and usage limits as Codex." A long Work task and a coding session drain the same bucket.
Plus estimates. OpenAI's table for Plus and Standard Business, per five hours of local messages: GPT-6.1 Sol 15 to 160, GPT-6 Sol 15 to 150, GPT-6 Luna 350 to 3,000. Cloud tasks may use more. Weekly limits may also apply. OpenAI says these "are not fixed message limits."
Agent mode caps. The agent mode help article lists 40 messages per month on Plus and 400 on Pro, and 30 credits per message for Business and Enterprise on flexible pricing. Only the first request of each task counts, but every scheduled run counts as a new request.
Speed costs. Fast mode uses included usage at 2.5x the Standard rate. Ultrafast, on Pro 500 only, uses it at 8x, then credits at 6x the Standard credit rate.
Model access. GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are Work and Codex models. Plus includes limited GPT-6 Astra in Work, with optional credits after that; Pro 100 and Pro 200 can use their full allowance on Astra.
Annual vs monthly
OpenAI's personal plans list monthly prices only. The Pro tiers are monthly plans.
Hidden costs
- Credits. After you hit limits on Plus or Pro, credits keep you going. They also cover ChatGPT for Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Credit prices show in Settings, Usage rather than on the public pricing page.
- Image generation inside Work and Codex uses included limits about 3 to 5 times faster.
- Voice in the desktop app uses Codex usage at $0.05 per minute.
- Pro 200 allowance. New Pro 200 subscriptions carry a lower allowance than earlier ones; grandfathered users keep the old allowance through October 29, 2026.
Worked examples
Weekly research brief. One scheduled Work task per week that reads your inbox and docs and writes a brief. Fits comfortably on Plus. Cost: $20 per month.
Daily agent errands. Two agent tasks a day, every day, is about 60 a month, past the 40 per month agent mode figure for Plus. Either keep tasks inside Work's shared allowance and watch the usage dashboard, or move to Pro 100. Cost: $20 plus credits, or $100.
All day agent and coding work. A developer running Codex and Work for hours daily. Pro 100 or Pro 200 avoids the five hour limit. Cost: $100 to $200 per month.

Frequently asked questions
Is ChatGPT agent free?
Free and Go users get limited ChatGPT Work access in the ChatGPT desktop app. Full Work on web and mobile, scheduled and event triggered tasks, and the agent mode allowances in OpenAI's help article start with Plus at $20 per month.
How many agent tasks do I get on Plus?
OpenAI's agent mode help article lists 40 agent messages per month on Plus, counting only your initial request for each task. ChatGPT Work uses Codex's usage structure, where Plus estimates run 15 to 160 local messages per five hours on GPT-6.1 Sol and 350 to 3,000 on GPT-6 Luna, with weekly limits possible.
What does ChatGPT Pro add for agents?
Longer Work and Codex sessions, Dot (an always on agent with its own cloud computer), full use of GPT-6 Astra on Pro 100 and Pro 200, and Ultrafast on Pro 500. Pro plans currently have no five hour usage limit.
What happens when I hit my ChatGPT agent limit?
On Plus and Pro you can buy credits and keep working without upgrading. Work finishes the turn already in progress, subject to fair use. Business and Enterprise plans with flexible pricing buy workspace credits.
Do scheduled agent tasks count against my limit?
Yes. OpenAI's agent help article says each agent invocation counts, including agent requests that are part of scheduled tasks. Clarifications and authentication steps during a task do not count.
Is ChatGPT agent cheaper than Manus?
At the entry level both start at $20 per month. ChatGPT Plus is a flat fee with usage ranges; Manus Pro gives 4,000 credits and charges by task complexity, plus a free plan with 300 daily credits.
