What each plan includes
Free gives unlimited everyday text chats on GPT-5.6 Luna, subject to OpenAI's abuse safeguards. Uploads, image generation, voice and data analysis have their own limits. Free users can pick Think for harder questions, which also uses Luna, and get the GPT-5.6 Terra model in Codex.
Go ($8) raises those tool limits: more messages with tools, more image creation, more memory and storage, more voice chats. The catch is ads, and the model stays on GPT-5.6 Luna.
Plus ($20) is the main upgrade. You get GPT-6 in Chat at Medium and High thinking, higher quality image creation, the Work agent that acts across apps and files, Codex for coding, 20 GB of storage, email and calendar connections, larger projects, personal finance and data tools, and no ads. Plus also gets GPT-6 Astra inside Work and Codex.
Pro ($100, $200 or $500) adds the Extra High thinking level, GPT-6 Pro powered by GPT-6 Astra (listed for Pro $100 and Pro $200), Dots always-on agents, more Work and Codex, 100 GB of storage and early access to new models. The three prices are usage tiers of the same plan.
Business adds a shared workspace: SAML SSO and MFA, connectors to Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub and Microsoft 365, central billing, usage analytics and spend controls, workspace agents, and no training on business data by default. You can mix standard and premium seats.
Enterprise adds compliance and governance controls, including Compliance API visibility, retention controls and 24/7 support with SLAs, according to OpenAI's Enterprise page.
Pricing explained
The price you pay depends on two things: how often you hit the strongest model, and whether you need a shared workspace.
For one person, the jump that matters is Free to Plus. Go fills the gap for people who want more messages without paying $20, but it does not change the model. Plus is the cheapest plan with GPT-6.
Pro is not unlimited. OpenAI's help center states that a Pro subscription "does not include unlimited use" of GPT-6 Pro, and each tier has weekly allowances. On Pro $200, hitting the GPT-6 Pro weekly limit switches you to GPT-5.6 Thinking at Medium. On Pro $100, GPT-6 Pro and GPT-5.6 Sol Pro share one weekly allowance.
For teams, Business standard seats at $20 per month on annual billing cost the same as Plus, and add admin controls and the no training default. Premium seats are $100 per month on annual billing and carry 5x the usage with no 5 hour limit.
Cost math
| Scenario | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|
| One person on Plus | $20 | $240 |
| One person on Pro (entry tier) | $100 | $1,200 |
| Team of 10 on Business, annual | $200 | $2,400 |
| Team of 10 on Business, monthly | $250 | $3,000 |
| Team of 10 with 2 premium seats, annual | $360 | $4,320 |
The last row is 8 standard seats at $20 plus 2 premium seats at $100. The BestBots AI Price Index lists ChatGPT Plus at $20 per seat, against a median of $19.99 across the seven major assistants with a seat plan.
How it compares
| Assistant | Standard plan | Team seat (annual) |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Plus, $20 | $20 |
| Claude | Pro, $20 ($17 annually) | $20 |
| Gemini | Google AI Pro, $19.99 | Gemini Enterprise from $21 |
| Microsoft Copilot | Microsoft 365 Premium, $19.99 | Copilot Business add-on $21 ($18 first year promo) |
| Perplexity | Pro, $17 billed annually | Enterprise Pro, $34 |
ChatGPT is priced in line with the market. Claude matches it and is cheaper on an annual personal plan; see Claude pricing. Gemini's AI Pro is a cent cheaper and includes 5 TB of storage; see ChatGPT vs Gemini.
Which plan to pick
- Light use, a few chats a day: Free.
- More messages, no budget for $20: Go at $8, if ads are fine.
- Daily work, writing, images, some coding: Plus.
- Hitting Plus limits every week: Pro $100 first, then move up.
- A team that shares files and needs SSO: Business, on annual billing.
Start on monthly billing and watch your usage in settings for a few weeks before you upgrade or commit to annual seats.
