What it is
Freshdesk is Freshworks' customer support helpdesk: ticketing, shared inbox, customer portal, knowledge base, routing, SLAs and analytics. Freshworks says more than 74,000 businesses use its products. Freddy AI is the AI layer, sold in three pieces:
- Freddy AI Agent: autonomous replies to customers, built and monitored in AI Agent Studio. The plan table lists an Email AI Agent that holds back and forth conversations, responds with the right resolution and captures feedback.
- Freddy AI Copilot: assistance for human agents, including sentiment analysis, a response assistant, live translation in 60+ languages, summaries and similar ticket suggestions.
- Freddy AI Insights: proactive alerts with root cause analysis and conversational reporting, on Enterprise.
Pricing explained
Freshdesk's pricing page shows annual prices per agent per month and says annual billing saves 20%. Monthly prices are not shown.

|---|---|---|---|
| Growth | $19 | Ticketing, shared inbox, portal and knowledge base, analytics, roles | AI Agent (500 free sessions once) |

| Enterprise | $89 | Skill based routing, sandbox, audit logs, IP allowlisting | AI Agent, Copilot add on, AI Insights |
Add ons, as listed:
- Extra Freddy AI Agent sessions: $49 per 100 on every plan

What a session means for your bill
A session is one unique interaction between a customer and the AI Agent. On email, it is a 72 hour window from the customer's first message, and all AI replies in that window count once. Sessions are billed whether or not the AI resolves the issue. Session packs expire with your payment cycle, so a quarterly payer's sessions expire quarterly.
The 500 free sessions are the detail to read twice: Freshdesk's FAQ says they are offered once per account to try the AI Agent. After that, every session is paid.
Worked examples
| Team | Plan | Agents | AI sessions a month | Math | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small email team | Growth | 3 | 200 | $57 seats + 200 x $0.49 | about $155 |
| Mid size team | Pro + Copilot for all | 10 | 1,000 | $550 + $290 + 1,000 x $0.49 | about $1,330 |
| Larger team | Enterprise | 25 | 3,000 | $2,225 + 3,000 x $0.49 | about $3,695 |
These assume the one time 500 free sessions are already used. Compare per resolution: if the AI resolves 60% of sessions, the effective price is about $0.82 per resolution, still below Intercom Fin at $0.99 and Zendesk at $1.50. All tracked prices are on the AI Price Index.
Key features
AI Agent Studio
An all in one hub to build, test, deploy and monitor AI agents, with guidance on improving resolutions. This is where you connect knowledge base content and set how the agent behaves before handing it email traffic.
Email AI Agent
The Email AI Agent engages in back and forth replies, answers with the resolution and captures customer feedback. Because a session spans 72 hours on email, a long thread with several AI replies is still one session.
Freddy AI Copilot
For human agents on Pro and Enterprise: a prioritized list of conversations by sentiment, drafting with a quality coach and tone controls, live translation in 60+ languages, conversation summaries and suggestions of similar tickets and solution articles. You can assign Copilot to only some agents; day passes do not cover it.
Freddy AI Insights
On Enterprise only: proactive alerts on key metrics across channels with root cause analysis, and conversational insights where you ask a question and get a chart or report.
Helpdesk depth
Freshdesk's core strengths are mature ticketing, automations, SLAs, routing (intelligent on Pro, skill based on Enterprise), a customer portal, a knowledge base, custom dashboards, sandbox and audit logs on Enterprise, and SAML SSO. Day passes are a practical feature for seasonal businesses.
Integrations and actions
Connector app tasks let the helpdesk act in other apps, and MCP actions connect Freddy to external tools through the Model Context Protocol, both billed as usage. Listed integrations include Freshworks CRM, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Shopify, Salesforce and Jira.
What users say
Freshdesk holds 4.4 on G2 from 3,818 reviews, one of the larger review bases in support software. Freshworks' own pricing page quotes customers who say Freddy gave less confident writers more confidence on email and that Copilot changed how their team works. Treat vendor quotes as marketing; the G2 volume is the stronger signal that the helpdesk itself is well liked.
Privacy and security
Freshworks' security page points buyers to a trust center for certifications, attestations and documents, but the pages we read did not list certifications or describe how Freddy AI uses customer data for model training. Enterprise adds audit logs, sandbox and IP allowlisting, and SAML SSO is available. Ask Freshworks for its SOC 2 report and AI data processing terms before using Freddy on sensitive tickets.
Who it is for
- Email led support teams of 2 to 50 agents that want ticketing first and AI second
- Budget conscious teams that want AI at about $0.49 per session
- Seasonal businesses that need day passes for temporary agents
- Teams that want Copilot for some agents, not all
Who should skip it
- Chat and messaging first teams; the plan table lists an Email AI Agent
- Buyers who want to pay only for resolutions; sessions bill whether or not the AI solves the issue
- Regulated buyers who need certifications listed up front; Zendesk publishes more
- Large omnichannel contact centers with voice AI needs
Alternatives
- Zendesk AI agents: deeper omnichannel AI and verified only billing; see Zendesk vs Freshdesk
- Intercom Fin: $0.99 per outcome, runs standalone on Freshworks
- HubSpot Customer Agent: $0.50 per resolution with CRM context
- Tidio: chat first, with a free plan

Verdict
Freshdesk with Freddy AI is a strong value pick for email led teams: matching Zendesk's $19 entry seat, a cheaper top plan, AI sessions at about $0.49 and practical extras like day passes and per agent Copilot. It falls short on channel coverage for the AI agent, on publishing security credentials and on the one time nature of its free sessions. If email is your main channel and budget matters, start here; if chat and voice AI matter more, look at Zendesk or Fin.
