Head to head scenarios

Long continuous shot

Winner: Kling. 15 seconds in one generation avoids the seams of stitched clips.

Ad for a client

Winner: Runway. Commercial use is included and Runway claims no ownership. Kling requires written permission and branding.

Editing existing footage

Winner: Runway. Aleph 2.0 edits up to 30 seconds of real video in context.

Budget hobby use

Winner: Kling. $10 a month and small credit packs from $1.49.

Native 4K delivery

Winner: Kling. Kling renders 4K, while Runway upscales Gen-4.5 output to 4K.

Team and enterprise requirements

Winner: Runway. Team plans with pooled credits; Enterprise with SSO, SOC 2, ISO/IEC 27001, no training and indemnification.

How to choose

Ask three questions before you subscribe.

Will the clip be used commercially? If yes, Runway is the default. Kling's terms require written permission for commercial use and Kling branding on outputs, which most brands and agencies cannot accept. If you only make personal edits, fan videos or tests, this question does not decide it.

How long is your longest shot? If you need 11 to 15 seconds of continuous action, Kling does it in one pass. Runway tops out at 10 seconds per Gen-4.5 generation, so you will cut between clips or extend.

Do you edit real footage? If you shoot live action and want AI to change it, Runway's Aleph 2.0 is the tool. Kling is a generator.

A practical setup. Many creators keep a Runway Pro plan for client work and editing, and try Kling on a $10 month or a small credit pack to see whether its long clips suit their style. Because Runway also runs Kling as a third party model, you can test Kling output inside Runway before deciding whether a separate Kling membership is worth it. Track how many attempts each usable shot takes in both apps; failed generations still cost credits on both, and that is where the real cost difference shows up.

Privacy

Runway's terms let it train on your inputs and outputs below Enterprise. It is a named defendant in Andersen v. Stability AI and YouTube scraping class actions pending as of October 2026, and attaches C2PA content credentials to outputs.

Kling, run by Kuaishou, grants itself a license to use your content and to train its models unless you email to revoke, per its April 21, 2026 terms. TechCrunch reported that politically sensitive prompts are blocked. Trustpilot scores are poor for both (Runway 1.2 from 366, Kling 1.2 from 415), while both rate 4.5 or higher on the App Store.

Verdict

Runway wins for anyone who sells or publishes video for a business: clear commercial rights, editing tools and team plans. Kling wins on raw clip length and native 4K for personal work. If you like Kling's output, the cleanest routes for commercial projects are getting Kling's written permission or running Kling inside Runway after confirming with Runway which terms apply.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kling better than Runway?

Kling makes longer single clips, up to 15 seconds, extendable to 3 minutes, and renders in 1080p or 4K. Runway is the better studio, with Aleph 2.0 editing, Team plans, C2PA and commercial use on every plan. For business use Runway is the safer choice.

Can I use Kling inside Runway?

Yes. Runway lists Kling among the third party models you can run with Runway credits, in the app and the API. That puts Kling's model under your Runway account and billing. Ask Runway whether any model specific terms from Kling carry through before you use those clips commercially.

Which is cheaper, Runway or Kling?

Kling starts lower at $10 per month in the App Store, with credit packs from $1.49. Runway Standard is $15 per month, or $12 billed yearly.

Can I use Kling videos for ads?

Kling's terms of service dated April 21, 2026 say outputs may not be used commercially without Kling's written permission and require Kling branding. Runway allows commercial use on all plans and claims no ownership of outputs.

Which has longer clips?

Kling. It generates up to 15 seconds per clip and can extend to 3 minutes. Runway Gen-4.5 makes 2 to 10 second clips; Aleph 2.0 can edit existing footage up to 30 seconds.

Which is better for privacy?

Runway Enterprise offers no training on your data, SOC 2 and ISO/IEC 27001. On lower plans both can train on your content: Runway under its terms and Kling unless you email to revoke its license.
