Small agency with 4 editors
Winner: Runway. Team pools 6,900 credits per seat with API access and 1TB of storage. Pika has no self serve team plan.

How to choose
Start with what happens to the clip after you make it.
If it goes to a client, a brand account or a paid ad, you need commercial rights. Runway includes them on every plan; Pika starts at Creator for $35. At that point Runway Standard at $15 or Pro at $35 gives you more tools for the same or less money.
If it goes to your personal TikTok, Pika's $10 Starter plan, its effects and its no watermark policy make it the cheaper, faster option.
If you need to edit footage you shot, Runway's Aleph 2.0 is the deciding feature.
Test before you buy a year. Both apps charge credits for failed or unusable generations, and both have poor Trustpilot scores for that reason. Pika's payments are non refundable. Run one month on monthly billing, count how many attempts it takes to get a usable 5 second shot, and divide your plan price by usable seconds. That number, not the headline credit count, tells you which app is cheaper for your style of work.
Privacy
Runway claims no ownership of outputs but can train on your inputs and outputs unless you are on Enterprise, which adds SOC 2, ISO/IEC 27001, SSO, no training on your data and indemnification. Runway is a named defendant in Andersen v. Stability AI and YouTube scraping class actions, pending as of October 2026.
Pika is a consumer app with no published SOC 2 or ISO certifications, and its terms let it use your content to run and improve the service. Payments are non refundable.
Both have weak Trustpilot scores (Runway 1.2 from 366, Pika 1.7 from 73), driven by credits spent on failed generations, and both score well on the App Store.
Verdict
Runway wins for anyone making video for a client, a brand or a team. It costs $5 more to start, but commercial use is included, credit costs are published and the toolset is far deeper. Pika wins for hobbyists and social creators who want effects and a low price, as long as they stay on personal use or pay for Creator.
