Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
Pick Roborock for most homes: the Saros 20 has 36,000 Pa, 300+ obstacle types, 3.46 in threshold climbing and Matter, and Roborock's app is the most rated in the category. Pick Ecovacs if you hate buying dust bags or fight dried kitchen stains: the Deebot X12S OmniCyclone's bagless dock and pre spraying roller mop are things Roborock's flagship does not offer.

Pricing
BestBots does not list robot prices because both brands sell on Amazon and prices change daily. What differs in running costs: the X12S's bagless dock saves the cost of dust bags, while the Saros 20 needs a bag every couple of months. Both dock stations dose detergent, which is a recurring cost on each.
Features
Roborock publishes more of what buyers compare: Pa suction, obstacle counts, threshold heights. Ecovacs publishes less (no runtime, air watts instead of Pa) but brings two features Roborock's flagship lacks: a bagless self empty station and a roller mop with a FocusJet pre spray for dried stains. Roborock's own roller mop lives on its mid range Qrevo Curv 2 Flow.
Who wins for carpet
Roborock. 36,000 Pa, automatic mop detach and the 3.14 in body that reaches under low furniture make the Saros 20 the carpet pick. The X12S protects rugs by lifting its roller under a cover, but Ecovacs does not publish a Pa figure to compare.
Who wins for kitchen stains
Ecovacs. FocusJet sprays a dried stain before the 4,000 Pa pressure roller scrubs it, and the roller rinses through 32 nozzles as it goes. Spinning pads that only wash at the dock cannot match that on sticky floors.
Who wins for old houses
Roborock. It climbs 3.46 in double layer thresholds against the X12S's 2.0 in double obstacles, which decides whether the robot crosses into every room.
Who wins for pets
Roborock, narrowly. The Saros 20 recognizes 300+ object types, sees objects down to 0.79 in and adds side facing VertiBeam sensing for cords and low clutter. Ecovacs says the X12S approaches pets, pet waste and wires cautiously with AIVI 3D 4.0 but does not publish an object count. For shedding, both empty automatically; the X12S's bagless station means no bag to replace when hair fills it, which some pet owners will value more than the obstacle count.
Who wins on a budget
Split. The Ecovacs N30 Pro Omni has a full station that washes with warm water and hot air dries its mops, plus up to 320 minutes of runtime, but laser only obstacle avoidance. The Roborock Q7 M5+ has LiDAR, 10,000 Pa, a 7 week dock and 4.0 from 25,463 Amazon ratings, but a pad mop that does not self wash. Mop first, Ecovacs; vacuum first, Roborock.
Who wins on owner record
Roborock. The Saros 20's 4,507 Amazon ratings at 4.2 are a far larger base than the X12S's 86 at 4.5. Both apps rate well: Roborock 4.8 from 129,252 and ECOVACS HOME 4.6 from 55,373 on the App Store.
Privacy
Both flagships navigate with cameras. Turn off remote video features you do not use, review what each app uploads, and keep firmware updated. Roborock cites TUV certification to ETSI 303 645 and says camera functions are off by default on its Saros Z70. The FCC's July 2026 action on foreign made robotic devices affects new authorizations; robots already approved can still be sold and receive security updates for now.
Verdict
Roborock wins more scenarios and is the safer default: stronger published specs, more owner history and the best app. Ecovacs is the better pick for a hard floor home that wants a bagless dock and the most aggressive stain mopping, and its N30 Pro Omni is the better budget mopper. Roborock for most buyers: the Saros 20 publishes more suction, more obstacle types, taller threshold climbing and ships with Matter, and Roborock's app has the most ratings in the category. Ecovacs wins if you want a bagless dock or a roller mop that pre sprays stains, with the Deebot X12S OmniCyclone.
Ecovacs X12S OmniCyclone vs Roborock Saros 20: which should I buy?
The Saros 20 for carpet, clutter and old houses with tall sills. The X12S for hard floor kitchens with dried stains and owners who never want to buy dust bags.
Why does Ecovacs list suction in AW instead of Pa?
