Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
Intercom Fin is the better buy for most teams: $0.99 per outcome against Zendesk's $1.50 to $2.00 per automated resolution, and it can run on top of other helpdesks with no seat fees. Zendesk AI agents win if your team already runs Zendesk Suite and wants AI, ticketing, QA and voice in one contract.

The short answer
Choose Fin if you want the lowest per resolution price from a top tier vendor, if you are a SaaS or tech company with a docs heavy help center, or if you want to keep your current helpdesk and add an AI agent on top.
Choose Zendesk AI agents if your agents already work in Zendesk, if you need 80 language coverage and voice in the same suite, or if your AI volume is modest and the 5 to 10 included resolutions per agent cover a meaningful share of it.
Pricing
Both vendors publish their rates, which is rare in this category. Here is what each pricing page lists in October 2026.
| Intercom Fin | Zendesk AI agents | |
|---|---|---|
| AI unit | $0.99 per outcome | $1.50 committed, $2.00 pay as you go per automated resolution |
| Included AI | None | 5 per agent per month (Team plans), 10 (Suite Professional), capped at 10,000 a year |
| Seats, monthly | Essential $39, Advanced $99, Expert $139 | Support Team $25, Suite Team $69, Suite Professional $149 |
| Seats, annual | $29, $85, $132 | $19, $55, $115 |
| Standalone option | Yes, no seats, 50 outcome monthly minimum | No |
| Voice | $1.99 per voice outcome, via sales | Included in Suite, billed per resolution |
| Agent copilot | $35 per agent monthly, $29 annual | $50 per agent per month billed annually |
| Trial | 14 days, unlimited outcomes | 14 days of Suite Professional |
Worked example: 5 agents, 1,000 AI resolutions a month
- Fin on Intercom Essential, monthly: 5 seats at $39 is $195, plus 1,000 outcomes at $0.99 is $990. Total $1,185.
- Fin standalone on your current helpdesk: $990, plus whatever you already pay for that helpdesk.
- Zendesk Suite Team, monthly, pay as you go: 5 seats at $69 is $345. Included resolutions are 5 per agent, so 25. The other 975 at $2.00 is $1,950. Total $2,295. At the $1.50 committed rate it drops to $1,807.50.
Worked example: 20 agents, 300 AI resolutions a month
- Fin on Intercom Essential, monthly: 20 seats at $39 is $780, plus 300 at $0.99 is $297. Total $1,077.
- Zendesk Suite Team, monthly: 20 seats at $69 is $1,380. Included resolutions are 100, so 200 extra at $2.00 is $400. Total $1,780.
Zendesk's allowance helps large teams with light AI use, but its seat price is higher than Intercom's at every tier, so Fin still comes out ahead in both examples. Zendesk only wins on cost when you compare the cheapest Support Team seat ($25) against Intercom seats and AI volume stays inside the allowance.
One caution on Zendesk: its pricing page lists 5 and 10 included resolutions per agent, while its help center table lists 5, 10 and 15 depending on plan. Get your allowance written into the order form.
What counts as a resolution
This is where the two differ most, and it changes your real cost.
Fin counts a resolution when, after Fin's last answer, the customer confirms it helped or leaves without asking for more help. The second case is an "assumed resolution." You are not charged when the customer asks for a human, when Fin only greets, when Fin asks a clarifying question that goes unanswered, or when Fin escalates by rule. Fin charges one outcome per conversation even if it takes several actions.
Zendesk bills an automated resolution only when the request is resolved by the AI agent without escalation to a human. The window is 72 hours after the first email, 2 hours after the first message by default (adjustable to 72 hours), or immediately at hangup for voice.
In practice, Fin's assumed resolution rule can bill a frustrated customer who gave up, unless Fin detects frustration and escalates. Zendesk's escalation window protects you if the customer comes back within it. Ask both vendors for a sample month of billed conversations before you sign.
Features
Channels. Fin covers chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS, Slack, Instagram and Facebook Messenger, with voice priced separately. Zendesk AI agents cover web and in-app messaging, social, email and voice.
Languages. Zendesk lists 80 languages. Intercom's help center lists more than 60 languages and regional variants for Fin's AI answers.
Knowledge. Fin reads help center articles, websites, PDFs and content in connected helpdesks. Zendesk AI agents read your Zendesk help center plus external sources such as Google Drive and PDFs.
Platform depth. Zendesk's comparison page argues that Zendesk has native QA and workforce management while Intercom relies on third parties for parts of that, and claims 1,800+ marketplace apps against about 450 for Intercom. Those are Zendesk's claims, but the gap in workforce tooling is real for large contact centers.
Reviews. On G2, Fin rates 4.5 from 3,925 reviews and Zendesk for Customer Service rates 4.3 from 7,102 reviews.
Who wins for each team
SaaS startup with a docs site. Fin. Lower unit price, a strong help center reader, and Intercom's Early Stage program lists 93% off year one for qualifying startups.
Established support team already on Zendesk. Zendesk AI agents. Switching helpdesks to save $0.50 to $1.00 per resolution rarely pays for the migration, and you keep QA, routing and reporting in one place.
Team on Salesforce, HubSpot or Gorgias. Fin standalone. No seat fees, $0.99 per outcome and a 50 outcome minimum ($49.50) make it a low risk trial on top of your existing stack.
Multilingual or voice heavy contact center. Zendesk, for 80 languages and voice bundled into Suite. Fin Voice at $1.99 per outcome is twice its chat rate.
Verdict
Fin is the better AI agent purchase on published pricing: $0.99 per outcome beats $1.50 to $2.00, Intercom's seats are cheaper at every tier, and the standalone option lets you add Fin without moving your tickets. Zendesk is the better platform purchase if you already run it or need its workforce and QA depth, and its included resolutions soften the per resolution gap for large, low volume teams. Frequently asked questions
Is Intercom Fin cheaper than Zendesk AI?
Per resolution, yes: $0.99 against $1.50 to $2.00. Zendesk includes 5 to 10 resolutions per agent per month, so a large team with low AI volume can pay less on Zendesk, but at most volumes Fin's unit rate wins.
Can I use Fin with Zendesk?
Intercom sells Fin standalone for other helpdesks at $0.99 per outcome with no seat fees and a 50 outcome monthly minimum. Its pricing page names Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshworks, Front, Zoho and Gorgias among supported helpdesks. Confirm Zendesk support with Intercom sales before you buy.
What counts as a resolution on each?
Fin counts a resolution when the customer confirms the answer or leaves without asking for more help after Fin's last answer. Zendesk counts an automated resolution when the request is resolved without escalation to a human inside a window: 72 hours for email, 2 hours by default for messaging, and at hangup for voice.
Which has more integrations?
Zendesk says it has 1,800+ apps in its marketplace and puts Intercom at around 450, according to Zendesk's own comparison page. Treat both numbers as vendor claims and check the specific apps you need.
Which is better for voice support?
Both offer voice. Zendesk bundles voice into Suite plans and counts voice resolutions at hangup. Fin Voice is sold through Intercom sales at $1.99 per voice outcome, about double its chat rate.
Which is easier to set up?
If you are already on one of them, its own AI agent is the easier path because it reads your existing help center. For a new team, Fin's 14 day trial with unlimited outcomes and no card is the faster way to see real resolution rates.
