Make is the best value AI agent builder for small businesses and ops teams: $16 a month billed monthly buys 10,000 credits, AI Agents are included on every plan including Free, and the visual canvas handles complex, branching workflows. The tradeoffs are a steeper learning curve than Zapier, a smaller app catalog (3,500+ against 9,000+) and no self hosting.

By Make

Make gives the most automation per dollar for non developers: $16 a month buys 10,000 credits and AI Agents are on every plan, including Free. The tradeoff is a canvas that takes longer to learn than Zapier and AI actions that can burn more than 1 credit each.

What it is

Make, formerly Integromat, is a cloud automation platform built around a visual canvas. A scenario starts with a trigger module and flows through actions, routers that split the path, filters, iterators and error handlers, all laid out like a diagram. Make says 500,000+ companies have used the platform.

Make AI Agents bring agentic behavior onto the same canvas. An agent gets instructions and tools, reasons about unstructured input such as a free text email, chooses what to do next and triggers real scenarios. Every decision appears step by step in a Reasoning panel, which makes agents easier to audit than black box assistants. Make positions agents for workflows that need judgment and keeps fixed scenarios for everything rule based.

Pricing explained

Make moved to credits as its billing unit on August 27. Plans are priced by how many credits you need a month; the table below shows the lowest tier, 10,000 credits.

Plan Price billed monthly Price billed annually Extra credits Key additions
Free $0 $0 Not listed 1,000 credits a month, 3,500+ apps, routers and filters, 15 minute minimum interval
Core $16 $12 $1.60 per 1,000 Unlimited active scenarios, scheduling down to the minute, Make API
Pro $28 $21 $2.80 per 1,000 Priority execution, custom variables, full text log search
Teams $51 $38 $5.10 per 1,000 Teams and roles, shared scenario templates
Enterprise Quote only Quote only Custom Custom functions, enterprise apps, 24/7 support, overage protection

Most actions use 1 credit. Advanced features that use Make's AI Provider can use more, so an agent heavy scenario will burn credits faster than a simple data sync. Extra credits come in bundles of 1,000 or 10,000.

To put that in context, a 5 step workflow (a trigger plus 4 actions) that runs 2,000 times a month uses roughly 8,000 to 10,000 credits and fits Core at $16. The same workload costs about $27 (€24) on n8n Starter and $193.50 on Zapier's 10,000 task tier, all billed monthly. Make is the cheapest of the three for short and medium length workflows; n8n overtakes it when workflows run many steps at high volume because n8n charges once per run.

Annual billing saves 25%. Companies with fewer than 20 employees can check eligibility for the Start up Plan, which takes 50% off. For per unit rates across every category we track, see the AI Price Index.

Features

  • Visual scenario builder. Routers, filters, iterators and error handlers on one canvas.
  • AI Agents on all plans. Built and debugged on the canvas, with a Reasoning panel for every decision.
  • 3,500+ apps plus an HTTP module for any API.
  • Make API from Core, for managing scenarios programmatically.
  • Scheduling down to the minute on paid plans; Free waits at least 15 minutes between runs.
  • Make Grid, a workflow orchestration view across your scenarios.
  • Collaboration. Teams, roles and shareable scenario templates on the Teams plan.
  • Security. SOC 2 Type II, SOC 3, ISO 27001 and GDPR, with AES 256 encryption at rest and TLS in transit.

Where it falls short: no self hosting, custom code functions only on Enterprise, and a catalog well behind Zapier's for niche apps.

Setup

You can sign up for Free and start from a template or a blank canvas. Connecting apps is a sign in flow, and modules expose their fields in menus. The learning curve is in the logic: understanding bundles, mapping fields between modules and using routers well. Expect a few hours before a multi branch scenario feels natural, and use the execution log to see exactly what each module received and returned.

Agents follow the same pattern. Add an agent to a scenario, give it instructions and the tools it may call, then run it and read the Reasoning panel to check its choices before you switch the scenario on.

Who it is for

  • Small businesses that want serious automation at a low monthly cost.
  • Operations, marketing and RevOps teams building workflows with branches and loops.
  • Agencies that build automations for clients and need volume without per task pricing.
  • Teams adding AI agents to existing processes who want to see why the agent acted.

Who should skip it

  • Absolute beginners who want results in an hour. Zapier's linear editor is gentler. See Make vs Zapier.
  • Teams that need self hosting or custom code below Enterprise. n8n covers both. See n8n vs Make.
  • Businesses that live in niche SaaS tools. Check Make's app list first.
  • Anyone uneasy about subscription billing disputes. Make's Trustpilot score is 2.7 from 172 reviews, polarized between 5 star and 1 star, though Make replies to 90% of negative reviews.

Verdict

Make gives more automation per dollar than any other no code platform we compare, and including AI Agents on every plan makes it the easiest way for a small business to try agents without a second bill. It earns the third slot in our ranking, behind Zapier on ease and n8n on raw power, and first on value.

Choose it if you are willing to spend an afternoon learning the canvas. If you are not, Zapier is the friendlier start; if you outgrow Make's catalog or need to self host, n8n is the next step.

Frequently asked questions

Is Make worth it in 2026?

Yes for most small businesses and ops teams. $16 a month billed monthly buys 10,000 credits, AI Agents are included on every plan, and the canvas handles branching logic well. It is less worth it if your team wants the simplest editor possible or needs self hosting.

How much does Make cost?

At the 10,000 credit tier, Core is $16 a month billed monthly or $12 billed annually, Pro is $28 or $21, and Teams is $51 or $38. Free includes 1,000 credits a month. Enterprise is quote only. Companies under 20 employees can apply for the Start up Plan at 50% off.

What is a Make credit?

Credits replaced operations as Make's billing unit on August 27. Each action a scenario performs uses credits; most use 1, while some advanced features that run on Make's AI Provider use more. Extra credits are sold in bundles of 1,000 or 10,000.

Does Make have AI agents?

Yes. Make AI Agents are available on all plans, including Free. You build, run and debug them on the same canvas as your scenarios, and the Reasoning panel shows each decision step by step.

Is Make easier than Zapier?

No. Zapier is easier for a first automation. Make's visual canvas is more powerful, with routers, filters and iterators on one screen, but most people need a few hours to get comfortable.

Can I self host Make?

No, Make is cloud only. If self hosting is a requirement, look at n8n.

Is Make the same as Integromat?

Yes. Integromat rebranded as Make. The scenario builder carried over and has since gained AI Agents and credit based billing.
