What is billed and what is not
Billed: a text conversation where the agent provided support and the customer was not handed to a human for 72 hours (50 credits), and every voice minute (50 credits).
Not billed: conversations handed to a human within 72 hours.
Shared: included credits cover all HubSpot AI features, not only Customer Agent, and reset monthly without rollover. If other teams use AI features, your support allowance shrinks.
Worked examples
All examples use Service Hub list seat prices from HubSpot's catalog and assume included credits are used only by Customer Agent.
| Team | Plan | Seats | Agent workload | Credits needed | Extra credits cost | Monthly bill |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small B2B team | Professional | 2 | 200 resolutions | 10,000 | 7,000 x $0.01 = $70 | $270 |
| Mid size support | Professional | 5 | 1,000 resolutions | 50,000 | 47,000 = $470 | $970 |
| Support plus phone | Professional | 10 | 2,500 resolutions + 500 voice minutes | 150,000 | 147,000 = $1,470 | $2,470 |
| Large team | Enterprise | 20 | 5,000 resolutions | 250,000 | 245,000 = $2,450 | $5,450 |
Add onboarding once: $1,500 on Professional, $3,500 on Enterprise. Spread over a year, that is $125 or about $292 a month.
The per resolution cost stays near $0.50 at every size because included credits are small. Seats are the bigger lever: on the small team, seats are 74% of the bill; on the large team, 55%.
Hidden costs to plan for
- Onboarding fee. $1,500 or $3,500 before your first resolution.
- Shared credits. Other AI features draw from the same pool.
- Voice per minute. A long unresolved call still costs $0.50 a minute.
- Seats for everyone who works tickets. The agent is cheap; the people around it are not.
- Tier requirements. WhatsApp and 100 knowledge bases are Professional features.
How HubSpot compares per resolution
| Product | Price per AI resolution | Seats or platform |
|---|---|---|
| Freshdesk Freddy AI | About $0.49 per session after a one time 500 | $19 to $89 per agent annual |
| HubSpot Customer Agent | $0.50 | $100 to $150 per seat |
| Tidio Lyro | $0.70 to $0.78 per conversation | Free to $349 |
| Gorgias | $0.85 to $1.00 plus a ticket | Ticket based |
| Intercom Fin | $0.99 per outcome | $29 to $132 annual, none standalone |
| Zendesk AI agents | $1.50 committed, $2.00 pay as you go | $19 to $115 annual |
HubSpot ties Freshdesk for the lowest AI unit price and has a fairer billing rule than session based or assumed resolution models. It is not the cheapest total if you only need a support bot. All tracked prices are on the AI Price Index.
How to keep the bill down
- Keep seats to people who work tickets; the agent itself needs no seat.
- Buy credit capacity packs ahead of known peaks rather than paying as you go.
- Use chat and email for routine questions and route long calls to humans early.
- Watch which other teams use HubSpot AI features, since they share your credits.
Is HubSpot Customer Agent worth the price?
For teams already on Service Hub Professional, yes: $0.50 per resolution with a 72 hour handoff rule is one of the best deals in the category. For teams not on HubSpot, the seats and onboarding make it an expensive way to get an AI agent; Intercom Fin standalone or Freshdesk cost less to start.
