Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
Midjourney costs $10 a month for Basic, $30 for Standard, $60 for Pro and $120 for Mega, or 20% less billed annually. For most individuals Standard is the plan to buy, because it adds unlimited Relax image generation. Businesses earning over $1M a year must pay for Pro or Mega, and there is no free trial on the web.

What the limits mean in practice
GPU time, not images. Midjourney charges for GPU minutes. Its version docs give the current cost: about 0.8 minutes for an SD job and 1.3 minutes for an HD (2048 px) job in V8.1. Upscales can cost twice the GPU time of the first image. Videos cost more than images.
| Plan | Fast minutes | SD jobs (0.8 min) | HD jobs (1.3 min) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 200 | about 250 | about 150 |
| Standard | 900 | about 1,125 | about 690 |
| Pro | 1,800 | about 2,250 | about 1,380 |
| Mega | 3,600 | about 4,500 | about 2,770 |
Our math from Midjourney's published minutes per job. A job normally returns a grid of variations, so the number of individual images is higher.
Relax mode removes the meter. From Standard up, when Fast time runs out you keep making images at no cost, just slower. This is why Standard at $30 is three times Basic's price but far more than three times the output for steady users.
Stealth costs $60. Images are public and remixable by default. If you do client work or anything confidential, Pro is the real entry price.
Annual vs monthly
Annual billing saves 20%: Standard drops from $360 a year on monthly billing to $288, and Pro from $720 to $576. The catch is paying the full year up front. If you are not sure you will use it every month, start monthly; Midjourney's Trustpilot reviews include people surprised by annual renewals.
Hidden costs
- The $1M revenue rule. Midjourney's terms require a company, or an employee of a company, with more than $1M a year in revenue to be on Pro or Mega to own its images. A business user's minimum is $48 a month annually.
- One user per account. The terms allow one user per account and one account per person, so a team of five needs five subscriptions.
- No API. Automated access is banned, so you cannot plug Midjourney into a workflow tool and pay per image.
- Extra GPU hours at $4 each add up on Basic if you upscale and animate.
- Upscales and video use more GPU time than the base image.
Worked examples
Hobbyist making 100 images a month. Basic at $10 covers roughly 250 SD jobs. Choose Basic, or $8 a month annually.
Freelance illustrator making 40 images a day. That is over 1,000 jobs a month, beyond Basic. Standard at $30 gives 15 Fast hours and unlimited Relax for the rest. Cost: $30 monthly or $24 annually.
Five person agency, revenue $2M. The $1M rule and confidentiality both point to Pro. Five Pro seats cost $300 a month, or $240 a month billed annually ($2,880 a year).
Heavy video creator. Pro or Mega for Relax SD video. HD video is Fast only, so Mega's 60 hours or extra $4 hours set the real budget.
How it compares
At $10, Midjourney's entry plan costs half of ChatGPT Plus ($20) and Ideogram Plus ($20), but ChatGPT includes images on its free plan and Ideogram gives 30 free credits a week. Google AI Plus at $4.99 adds Nano Banana Pro and 2K downloads. Leonardo.Ai's Premium at $30 matches Standard's price with its own unlimited relaxed generation, plus 150 free tokens a day. Adobe Firefly Standard at $9.99 gives 2,000 credits and unlimited standard image features. See all of them side by side in the Price Index and our best AI image generators guide.

Does Midjourney have a free trial?
Not on the web or Discord. Midjourney's help center says a limited trial is available only in the niji journey app for iOS and Android.
How many images do you get with Midjourney Basic?
Basic includes 200 Fast GPU minutes a month. At about 0.8 GPU minutes per V8.1 SD job and 1.3 minutes per HD job, that is roughly 250 SD jobs or 150 HD jobs, before upscales or video, which cost more.
Is Midjourney Standard or Pro better value?
Standard at $30 is the better value for individuals, because it adds unlimited Relax image generation. Pro at $60 is worth it if you need Stealth Mode for private work, unlimited Relax video, 12 concurrent fast jobs, or your company earns over $1M a year.
What happens when I run out of Fast hours?
On Basic, you buy more Fast time at $4 per hour or wait for renewal. On Standard and up, you can keep generating images in Relax mode at no extra cost, just slower. Pro and Mega can also generate SD video in Relax mode.
Can I cancel Midjourney anytime?
All plans are subscriptions that renew monthly or yearly unless you set them to cancel. Annual plans are paid up front, so check the cancellation terms before choosing annual billing. You keep ownership of images you created after you cancel.
