Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
Adobe Firefly is the best AI image generator for commercial and brand work: Adobe's own models are trained on licensed and public domain content, Adobe does not train on your files, and eligible enterprises get IP indemnification. One app also runs GPT Image, Nano Banana, FLUX and video models. The cost is plan complexity, with four credit tiers from $9.99 to $199.99 and expiring promos.

Firefly is the safest pick for commercial work: Adobe's own models are trained on licensed and public domain content, it never trains on your files, and eligible enterprises get IP indemnification. The cost is complexity, with four credit plans from $9.99 to $199.99, promo pricing that expires, and partner models that do not carry the same training story.

What it is
Firefly is Adobe's generative AI platform: a standalone web and mobile app at firefly.adobe.com, plus the models behind Generative Fill and other AI features in Photoshop, Illustrator, Express and Premiere. It generates and edits images, video, audio and vector graphics from text prompts.
The current Adobe image model is Firefly Image 5. The app's model menu also lists partner models from Google (Gemini with Nano Banana, Imagen), OpenAI (GPT Image), Black Forest Labs (FLUX), Runway, Kling, Luma, Topaz and ElevenLabs. That makes Firefly two products: Adobe's commercially safe models, and a multi model studio billed with one pool of credits.

Prices from Adobe's Firefly plans page in October 2026. Team plans are annual, billed monthly, at $19.99 to $199.99 per license.
What credits buy. Adobe uses one type of credit for Standard and Premium features. Standard image features are unlimited on paid plans, so credits go mainly to premium features, video, audio and partner models. The number consumed depends on the feature.
The promo trap. Pro Plus and Premium are 30% off for the first year only, through October 21, 2026. Budget for $49.99 or $199.99 from year two, and note that "unlimited" on Pro Plus is listed for the first year.
No rollover. Credits reset monthly and do not carry over. If you use heavy video one month and none the next, the unused credits are gone.
Cancellation. Adobe's company Trustpilot reviews are dominated by early termination fees on annual plans. Check whether you are on monthly or annual billing before you subscribe.

Key features
Firefly Image 5
Adobe's flagship image model, with style presets, reference images and aspect ratio controls. Its main selling point is the training data rather than a signature style: licensed Adobe Stock and public domain content.
Generative Fill and Generative Expand
Paint over part of a photo and describe what should replace it, or extend the canvas beyond its edges. These work in Firefly and in Photoshop, which is where most professional users meet them.
Partner models
Choose GPT Image, Nano Banana, FLUX 1.1 Pro, Ultra and Ultra Raw, or Imagen from the same menu. Adobe's help pages show reference image options for some models, such as subject references on Imagen and reference images on FLUX 1.1 Ultra. This lets you compare outputs from several labs without separate subscriptions.
Photoshop and Express included
Firefly Pro and up include Adobe Express Premium and Photoshop on web and mobile, which is real value if you would otherwise buy them. Credits work across Adobe apps.
Custom models and Boards
Firefly can train custom models on your own assets so output matches your brand style, and Firefly Boards lets you collect, arrange and generate on a shared canvas.
Content Credentials
Adobe automatically applies Content Credentials to certain exports using Firefly outputs, indicating AI was used. Adobe's user guidelines say you must not remove, alter or disable them.
What users say
The Adobe Firefly app has 4.7 on the App Store from 10,819 ratings. Adobe's company page on Trustpilot shows 1.1 from 7,542 reviews, mostly about annual subscription cancellation fees, charges after cancelling and support, not Firefly output. Common praise for Firefly: tight Photoshop integration and confidence using output for clients. Common complaints: output that looks more stock photo than art, credit confusion, and pricing.
Commercial rights and copyright
Adobe's commercial terms are the strongest in this category:
- Commercial use. The Firefly FAQ says outputs from non beta features can be used in commercial projects, and beta outputs too unless the product says otherwise.
- Training data. "Adobe Firefly models are trained on a dataset of licensed content, such as Adobe Stock, and public domain content where copyright has expired," per Adobe's generative AI approach page.
- Safeguards. Adobe says it deploys safeguards before training, during generation, at the prompt and at output so Firefly models do not create infringing content.
- Indemnity. "Adobe provides intellectual property indemnification for enterprise customers for content generated with Adobe Firefly." The plans page narrows this to "eligible enterprise customers" and "select Adobe Firefly outputs." Individual plans do not get it.
- Partner models. The training and safety claims above are about Adobe's Firefly models. Partner models are trained by their own developers, so if commercial safety is why you chose Firefly, pick an Adobe model for final assets.
- Copyright. Adobe's FAQ says laws on generative AI are evolving and recommends a local legal provider for copyright questions.
Privacy and security
Adobe states it does not train Firefly on Creative Cloud subscribers' personal content, and that user content in its apps will not be used to train generative models from Adobe or its partners. Prompts and outputs may be reviewed by automated and manual methods for abuse prevention, per the Generative AI User Guidelines. If you submit work to the Firefly community gallery, Adobe can use it in marketing. Business, Enterprise and Education users should not submit to the community. Firefly is not available in Russia, Belarus or China.
Who it is for
- Agencies and in house brand teams who need commercial safety and, at enterprise level, indemnity.
- Photoshop and Creative Cloud users who want generation inside the tools they already use.
- Teams comparing models who want GPT Image, Nano Banana and FLUX under one bill.
- Video creators who also need image work, on Pro Plus or Premium.
Who should skip it
- Hobbyists who want a striking art style. Midjourney is stronger.
- Anyone who hates credit math. ChatGPT Images bundles images into a flat $20 plan.
- Free users who want generous limits. Nano Banana and Leonardo.Ai are more generous.
- People wary of annual plan fees. Pick monthly billing, or a tool with no annual lock in.
Alternatives
- Midjourney: best artistic quality, unlimited Relax from $30.
- ChatGPT Images: easiest editing.
- Canva AI: images inside templates for non designers.
- Ideogram: text and print designs.

Verdict
Firefly is our pick for commercial work: licensed training data, a public no training pledge, enterprise indemnity, Content Credentials and Photoshop integration give it a trust profile no rival matches, and partner models make it a one stop studio. It ranks fourth overall because Adobe's own models are not the most exciting creatively, the plan ladder is confusing, and the cheapest route to unlimited images is a first year promo. Canva AI4.2Frequently asked questions
Is Adobe Firefly free?
Yes, with daily limits. Adobe's plans page says you do not need a plan to get free daily generations across image, video and audio, including popular models like Nano Banana and Luma Ray3.14, and that limits refresh every day. Adobe does not publish the daily number.
How much does Adobe Firefly cost?
Firefly Standard is $9.99 a month with 2,000 credits, Pro is $19.99 with 4,000 credits plus Adobe Express Premium and Photoshop on web and mobile, Pro Plus is $49.99 with 10,000 credits, and Premium is $199.99 with 50,000. Creative Cloud Pro at $69.99 includes 4,000 Firefly credits and 20+ apps.
Can I use Adobe Firefly images commercially?
Yes. Adobe's Firefly FAQ says outputs from features without a beta label can be used in commercial projects, and beta feature outputs can too unless the product says otherwise. Adobe also offers IP indemnification for eligible enterprise customers for content generated with Firefly.
Is Adobe Firefly really commercially safe?
Adobe says its Firefly models are trained on licensed content such as Adobe Stock and on public domain content where copyright has expired, and that it deploys safeguards before training, at the prompt and at output to avoid infringing content. That claim is about Adobe's own models. Partner models such as GPT Image, Nano Banana and FLUX are built by other companies.
Does Adobe train Firefly on my work?
No, according to Adobe. Its generative AI page says 'We do not train and have never trained Adobe Firefly on user content,' and that user content in its apps will not be used to train models from Adobe or its partners. Adobe Stock contributors' content is part of the training set under their contributor agreements.
What happens when I run out of Firefly credits?
Adobe's FAQ says you can wait for your monthly reset, upgrade to a larger plan, or buy a credit add on. Credits do not roll over between months. Standard image features are unlimited on paid plans, so credits mostly matter for premium features, video and partner models.
What is Firefly Image 5?
Firefly Image 5 is the current Adobe generative image model featured on the Firefly product page. You can pick it, or a partner model, from the model menu in Text to image.
