Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
Leonardo.Ai is the best value for high volume image makers: 150 free tokens every day, rollover token banks on paid plans, and unlimited relaxed generation on its own Lucid and Phoenix models plus FLUX from the $30 Premium plan. The fine print: third party models like GPT-Image-2 and Nano Banana always cost tokens, and free users do not own their images.

Leonardo gives the most generation per dollar for people who make a lot of images: 150 free tokens a day, rollover token banks, and unlimited relaxed generation on Lucid, Phoenix and FLUX models from $30 a month. The fine print matters: third party models like GPT Image 2 and Nano Banana always cost tokens, and free users do not own their images.

What it is
Leonardo.Ai is an image, video and design platform that combines its own models (Lucid Origin, Lucid Realism, Phoenix 1.0 and 0.9) with hosted open models (FLUX Dev and Schnell) and third party models running on other companies' servers (GPT-Image-2, Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana Pro, Seedream, Ideogram, and video models like Veo 3.1, Kling and Sora 2). You get one token balance across all of them.
Around generation it adds tools for working creators: Realtime Canvas and Realtime Generation, presets, Elements, image guidance with up to 6 references on paid plans, Blueprints workflows, Flow State, upscaling and background removal, and personal model training from 10 to 20 images.
Pricing explained
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly (per month) | Fast tokens | Rollover bank | Relaxed generation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 150 a day | None | None |
| Essential | $12 | $10 | 8,500 a month | 25,500 | None |
| Premium | $30 | $24 | 25,000 a month | 75,000 | Unlimited images on select models |
| Ultimate | $60 | $48 | 60,000 a month | 180,000 | Unlimited images and video on select models |

Teams. Starter is $72 a month for 3 seats ($24 per seat) with 25,000 fast tokens per seat; Growth is $144 for 3 seats ($48 per seat) with 60,000 per seat and team model training. Both include private team generations and unlimited relaxed image and video on selected models.
What a token buys. Leonardo says a token is not a fixed image size or action; cost scales with GPU load. That makes images per month impossible to state exactly. A light model at default quality stretches far; GPT-Image-2 or video eats tokens quickly.
Relaxed generation is the headline. On Premium and Ultimate, when fast tokens hit zero you keep generating at lower priority and lower concurrency on Lucid Origin, Lucid Realism, Phoenix 1.0, Phoenix 0.9, FLUX Dev, FLUX Schnell and Leonardo presets. Ultimate extends this to Hailuo 2.3, Wan 2.6 and Motion video. External provider models and Flow State are excluded.
Top ups. Paid users can buy token packs that never expire and are used after rollover and fast tokens, but only while subscribed.

Key features
Many models, one balance
Switch between Leonardo's own models and third party models without separate subscriptions. This is useful for comparing GPT-Image-2 against Nano Banana 2 against Lucid Realism on the same prompt.

Sketch and see the image update as you draw, with unlimited Realtime Canvas and Realtime Generation actions on team plans.
Personal model training
Upload 10 to 20 images to train a model that reproduces a style, theme or subject. Essential allows 10 personal models, Premium 20 and Ultimate 50.
Image guidance
Up to 6 reference images on paid plans to steer composition, style or character.
Video
Video generation is on every plan, with unlimited relaxed video on Ultimate for eligible models.
API
Pay as you go, automatic top ups, up to 10 concurrent generations, remove.bg background removal APIs, and credits that do not expire.
What users say
Leonardo has the best review profile of any image generator we checked: 4.7 on Trustpilot from 1,533 reviews, with 86% five stars, and 4.8 on the App Store from 11,157 ratings. The standout praise is support, with agents named in many reviews for fast, kind fixes, often within minutes. The complaints that do appear are about billing misunderstandings and unexpected system behavior, typically resolved by support.
Commercial rights and copyright
Leonardo's pricing FAQ, which points to its Terms of Service for detail, splits rights by plan:
- Paid subscribers: "you retain full ownership, copyright, and other intellectual property rights of images that you generate." Leonardo may use private images only to provide the service. Public images can be used by Leonardo and other users as enabled by a feature.
- Free users: "Leonardo.Ai holds rights to use, reproduce, modify, and distribute any images you create. However, you're granted a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to access your creations for commercial use."
So free users can sell or publish their images, but they do not own them and Leonardo can reuse them. If ownership matters, for a logo you plan to trademark for example, use a paid plan. Third party model outputs inside Leonardo may also be subject to those model providers' policies.
Privacy and security
Free creations are public; paid plans make creations private, and team plans offer private team generations. Leonardo says it may use private images only to provide its services. Its pricing page does not list SOC 2 or other certifications, and we did not find a published opt out from model training in the pages we opened, so treat sensitive client material with care on the free tier.
Who it is for
- High volume creators, game artists and print on demand sellers who benefit from relaxed unlimited generation.
- Free users who want a daily allowance that resets every day.
- People who train custom style models.
- Anyone comparing models who wants GPT-Image-2, Nano Banana and FLUX under one balance.
Who should skip it
- Free users who need to own their images. Ownership starts at $12.
- Heavy users of third party models. Those always cost tokens; buy them direct or use ChatGPT Images or Nano Banana.
- Brands that need indemnity and licensed training data. Adobe Firefly offers both.
- People who want a simple image count. Token math varies by model.
Alternatives
- Midjourney: stronger art style, unlimited Relax from $30.
- Ideogram: text heavy designs and 8K upscales.
- Nano Banana: free and strong at photo edits.
- Canva AI: generate images straight into design templates.
Verdict
Leonardo.Ai is the value pick: a daily free allowance, rollover tokens, unlimited relaxed generation on its own models from $30, and the best support reputation in the category at 4.7 from 1,533 Trustpilot reviews. It sits mid table because third party models drain tokens, image counts are unpredictable, and free users do not own their output. If you generate hundreds of images a month on a budget, it is the smartest $30 in AI images.

Is Leonardo.Ai free?
Yes. The free plan gives 150 fast tokens a day that reset daily, basic quality settings, one personal collection and access to platform and third party models. Free creations are public.
How much does Leonardo.Ai cost?
Essential is $12 a month ($10 billed yearly) with 8,500 fast tokens, Premium is $30 ($24 yearly) with 25,000, and Ultimate is $60 ($48 yearly) with 60,000. Team Starter is $72 a month for 3 seats and Growth is $144 for 3 seats. Prices exclude tax.
Can I use Leonardo.Ai images commercially?
Yes on every plan, with a difference. Paid subscribers keep full ownership and IP rights in what they generate. Free users can use creations commercially under a non-exclusive, royalty free license, while Leonardo holds rights to use, reproduce, modify and distribute those images.
Is Leonardo.Ai unlimited?
Partly. Premium and Ultimate get unlimited relaxed image generation on select Leonardo hosted models once fast tokens run out, and Ultimate adds relaxed video on Hailuo 2.3, Wan 2.6 and the Motion family. Models on external providers' servers, such as GPT-Image-2, Nano Banana 2, Seedream and Veo 3.1, always cost tokens.
How many images do I get per token plan?
Leonardo does not publish a fixed number. Its FAQ says token cost depends on the computational intensity of each action, so a quick image on a light model costs far less than a high quality or third party generation. Video costs more tokens than images.
Do Leonardo tokens roll over?
