The consumer AI video app for quick social clips and effects, judged on its published plans, credit rates, commercial terms and user ratings.
By , research by the BestBots team · Updated Oct 18, 2026
Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
Pika is a cheap, fun way to make short social clips. Its own Pika 2.5 model renders 1080p, every plan buys credits at the same rate, and third party models like Seedance, Wan and MiniMax sit on the same balance. The tradeoffs: commercial use starts at $35, credit costs for Pika's own models are not listed on the pricing page, and support reviews are weak.

A cheap, fun way to make short social clips, with Pika 2.5 at 1080p and the same per credit rate on every plan. Commercial use needs the $35 Creator plan, most credit costs for Pika's own models are no longer shown on the pricing page, and support reviews are weak.

What it is
Pika began as Pika Labs in 2023 and is now a consumer AI video app at pika.art and on iOS, run by Mellis, Inc. It is built for social creators rather than studios. You can type a prompt, animate a photo, set 2 to 5 keyframes, or apply effects that swap objects, add elements or transform a scene.
Pika now works as a mini model hub. Alongside Pika 2.5 you can pick Seedance 2.5, Wan 3.0, MiniMax H3 and Nano Banana 2, all paid from one credit balance. Pika also runs an API Club for developers, an MCP connector for AI agents and experimental agent projects.
Pricing explained
| Plan | Monthly | Billed yearly | Credits a month | Parallel videos | Commercial use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 0 (packs only) | 1 | No |
| Starter | $10 | $8 | 900 | 2 | No |
| Creator | $35 | $28 | 3,150 | 8 | Yes |
| Fancy | $95 to $880 | $76 to $704 | 8,550 and up | Unlimited | Yes |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom | Yes |
Every plan works out to about $0.0111 per credit ($10 / 900, $35 / 3,150, $95 / 8,550), so upgrading buys volume, parallel renders and the commercial license, not a cheaper rate. Fancy adds a priority queue, and early access starts at $440 per month.
Credit packs cost 60 credits per $1, from $25 for 1,500 to $1,000 for 66,000. That is about $0.0167 per credit, 50% more than plan credits. Pack credits expire after 365 days; plan credits do not roll over.
Refunds. Pika's terms say payments are non refundable. Try Starter for one month before committing to a year.
The missing number
Pika's pricing page lists credit costs for four third party models but not for Pika 2.5 itself. You see the cost in the app before you render. That makes it hard to say exactly how many Pika 2.5 clips 900 credits buys. Compare that with Runway, which publishes 12 credits per second for Gen-4.5.
Key features
Pika 2.5
Pika's own model renders up to 1080p: 5 second clips from text, 5 or 10 second clips from a photo, or a clip guided by 2 to 5 keyframes for more control over motion.
Effects
Pika is known for playful effects that inflate, melt, squish or swap objects in a scene. These are the fastest way to a viral style clip and the reason many people try Pika first.
Video Studio
Video Studio strings shots into multi shot videos of up to 30 seconds, useful for short ads and story clips.
Third party models
Seedance 2.5, Wan 3.0, MiniMax H3 and Nano Banana 2 are available on the same balance, so you can compare models without separate subscriptions.
API Club and MCP
API Club is a $10 per month membership plus per model prices. The MCP connector lets ChatGPT, Claude and other agents call Pika directly.
No watermark
Pika does not add a watermark on any plan, including Free.
Commercial rights and licensing
Commercial use requires Creator ($35 per month) or above. Free and Starter output is personal use only, even though it has no watermark, so do not post Starter clips in client work or paid ads.
Like other AI video tools, Pika makes you responsible for what you upload. Because Pika animates photos, get consent before you animate a real person's face, and avoid characters or brand assets you do not have rights to.
Pika does not advertise C2PA content credentials on its outputs in the pages we read, and with no watermark, viewers cannot tell a Pika clip is AI generated unless you label it. Platforms like YouTube, TikTok and Meta require AI disclosure for realistic synthetic content.
We found no lawsuits against Pika over training data in the sources we reviewed.
What users say
| Site | Rating | Reviews |
|---|---|---|
| App Store | 4.7 | 4,266 |
| Trustpilot | 1.7 | 73 |
The App Store score is strong, but Trustpilot reviewers complain about failed generations that still cost credits, confusion about what each model costs, and slow support. Given the non refundable payment policy, those complaints carry more weight.
Privacy and security
Pika is a consumer app and does not publish SOC 2 or ISO certifications. Its terms let it use your content to operate and improve the service. There is no enterprise data processing agreement listed outside the Enterprise plan. Avoid uploading confidential product shots or client footage.
Who it is for
- Social creators who want quick effects and short clips for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
- Hobbyists on a small budget who like trying several models from one balance.
- Developers and agent builders who want a simple API and an MCP connector.
Who should skip it
- Agencies and studios. Runway offers editing of existing footage, 4K upscaling, C2PA and team plans.
- Anyone who needs native audio. Veo generates dialogue and sound with the video.
- Commercial users on $10. Starter has no commercial license.
- Long clips. Kling runs up to 15 seconds per generation.
Alternatives
- Runway: the professional studio. See Runway vs Pika.
- Veo: native audio and 4K from $4.99.
- Kling: longer clips and strong motion.
- Luma Dream Machine: cheap credits and HDR for post production.

Verdict
Pika is the easiest AI video app to enjoy: playful effects, 1080p Pika 2.5 and no watermark. For anything you will sell or post for a client, budget for Creator at $35, since Starter is personal use only. Pika is a good second tool for social work, but for professional video Runway or Veo give you more control and clearer pricing.
