Worked examples

A creator making 3 short ads a week. 12 ads a month, each built from 3 Fast clips, is 36 clips x 20 credits = 720 credits. Pro at $19.99 covers it with room to spare.

A social team making 2 Quality hero clips a day. About 60 Quality clips a month x 100 credits = 6,000 credits. Pro is not enough; Ultra at $99.99 covers it.

A developer generating 1,000 product clips a month by API. 1,000 x 8 seconds on Fast at 1080p = 8,000 seconds x $0.12 = $960. On Lite at 720p: 8,000 x $0.05 = $400.

Same 8 second clip, three ways. Quality via API at 1080p: $3.20. In Flow on Pro: 100 of 1,000 credits, about $2.00 of the plan. In Flow on Ultra 5x: 100 of 10,000 credits, about $1.00.

Hidden costs and limits

  • Quality is expensive. At 100 credits, Quality clips cost 5 to 10 times Fast or Lite.
  • Clips are short. 8 seconds per generation, so a 30 second scene needs at least 4 generations plus edits.
  • Gemini app default. The Gemini app now defaults to Gemini Omni Flash for video, so Veo 3.1 is mainly a Flow and API product.
  • Regional limits. Avatars and video editing in Flow are unavailable in the EEA, UK and Switzerland.
  • No free API tier for Veo.

How it compares

Veo has the cheapest entry in AI video: $0 with daily credits, $4.99 for Plus. Rivals start higher: Runway Standard is $15, Kling Standard is $10 in the App Store, Pika Starter is $10, and Luma Plus is $30. On the API, Veo 3.1 Fast at $0.10 per second (720p) matches Runway Gen-4.5 at $0.12 and beats Luma's $0.24 per second at 1080p, and Veo includes audio. See the AI Price Index for per unit rates across the category.

Which plan to pick

  • Trying Veo: stay on Free and use 50 daily credits in Flow.
  • Occasional creator: Plus at $4.99 if you want Veo in the Gemini app; Pro at $19.99 if you make more than a few clips a week.
  • Weekly content producer: Pro.
  • Daily Quality output: Ultra 5x at $99.99.
  • Building a product: Gemini API on Fast or Lite.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Veo 3 cost?

In Flow, a Veo 3.1 clip costs 10 credits on Lite, 20 on Fast or 100 on Quality. Google AI plans add 200 to 25,000 credits a month for $4.99 to $199.99, and everyone gets 50 free credits a day. On the Gemini API, Veo 3.1 costs $0.05 to $0.60 per second.

Is Veo 3 free?

Partly. All Google Flow users get 50 credits per day, enough for about 5 Lite clips or 2 Fast clips. Video generation in the Gemini app needs a paid Google AI plan, and the Gemini API has no free tier for Veo.

How many Veo videos can I make with Google AI Pro?

Pro's 1,000 monthly credits buy 100 Lite clips, 50 Fast clips or 10 Quality clips, plus whatever you make with the 50 free daily credits.

Is Google AI Ultra worth it for Veo?

Only for heavy users. Ultra at $99.99 gives 10,000 credits and halves Lite and Fast costs, so it buys 1,000 Fast clips or 100 Quality clips a month, plus 4K upscaling. If you make fewer than about 50 Fast clips a month, Pro is cheaper.

What does the Veo API cost per video?

An 8 second Veo 3.1 clip at 1080p costs 8 x $0.40 = $3.20. The same clip on Veo 3.1 Fast at 1080p costs 8 x $0.12 = $0.96, and on Lite at 720p 8 x $0.05 = $0.40. You are charged only for successful videos.

Is there an annual plan for Google AI?

Google's subscriptions page lists monthly prices only. Check the Google One checkout for any annual offer in your country.
