Head to head scenarios
Checking facts and finding sources
Winner: Perplexity. Numbered citations on every answer make verification fast. Claude can search the web, but sourcing is not its main format.
Analyzing a 300 page contract or report
Winner: Claude. Up to 1M tokens of context, Projects and file creation suit long document work. Perplexity does not publish a context size for uploads.
Investor or market research
Winner: Perplexity. Pro includes PitchBook, Statista and S&P Capital IQ data, which Claude does not list. Deep Research turns that into a cited report.
Coding
Winner: Claude. Claude Code is included on Pro and shares usage with chat. Perplexity has no coding agent.
Writing and editing
Winner: Claude. It is built for multi turn drafting, and you can keep style guides and sources in Projects. Perplexity can use Claude models, but its interface is tuned for answers, not drafts.
Shopping and product comparisons
Winner: Perplexity. A cited answer with links to each retailer or review makes comparison shopping quick, and Computer on Pro can carry out multi step tasks. Claude can research the same products through web search, but you will spend more time checking where each claim came from.
Trying many models on one bill
Winner: Perplexity. One subscription covers models from several labs. Claude only runs Anthropic models.
Privacy
Claude lists model training as opt out on Free, Pro and Max and none by default on Team and Enterprise, with SCIM, audit logs, custom retention and a HIPAA ready offering on Enterprise.
Perplexity's privacy notice says it processes prompts, queries and uploads to provide the service and understand your preferences, and that it does not use email content to train models. Enterprise Pro lists no training on data, SSO, SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA; Enterprise Max adds SCIM, audit logs and retention settings.
