Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
Crisp is the best flat priced AI chatbot and shared inbox for small teams that want many seats on one bill. Essentials gives 10 seats, an omnichannel inbox and $25 of Hugo AI credits for $95 a month per workspace, and Crisp estimates each AI handled chat at $0.05 to $0.10. The tradeoffs: the tool connected AI agent is on the $295 Plus plan, and Trustpilot reviewers rate it 2.0.

Crisp prices per workspace, not per seat or per resolution, and its Hugo AI agent runs on bundled USD credits that Crisp estimates at $0.05 to $0.10 per conversation. That makes it the cheapest predictable option for small teams, with the tradeoff of a 2.0 Trustpilot score driven by support and account suspension complaints, and the full tool connected AI agent only on the $295 Plus plan.

What it is
Crisp is a French customer messaging platform: a website chat widget, a shared inbox for chat, email and messaging apps, a knowledge base, a ticketing system on top plans, and Hugo, its AI agent. Crisp describes itself as made in Europe and EU hosted.
Hugo answers customers from your Answers Snippets (Q and A pairs up to 1,000 characters, multilingual), knowledge base articles (reindexed automatically when you edit them), a website crawl, past conversations and imported files like PDFs and CSVs. When it cannot answer it says so and routes the chat to an operator. On the Plus plan Crisp lists an AI agent with MCP and third party tool connections.

Prices are from Crisp's pricing page as listed in October 2026. Extra seats are $10 a month. Yearly billing can be turned on in the app, but no annual price is published. Crisp gives 20% off three additional workspaces on Essentials and Plus, and 50% off for nonprofits and students through sales.
What each plan unlocks. Free covers the chat widget, shared inbox, mobile apps and Shopify, WooCommerce, Adobe Commerce and PrestaShop plugins. Mini adds a shared email inbox with your domain, canned responses, chat triggers and private notes. Essentials adds the omnichannel inbox, a no code AI chatbot and workflow builder, knowledge base, analytics and routing. Plus adds the tool connected AI agent, unlimited task automations, ticketing with a customer portal, 100+ integrations, white label and advanced analytics.
How AI credits work. Credits are a USD value that resets each billing cycle on the 4th. Usage is token based and billed per conversation, so long chats, large knowledge sources and premium models cost more. Crisp's help center estimates $0.05 to $0.10 per conversation Hugo handles fully. Workflows do not use Hugo credits. When credits run out, Hugo stops and new chats go to people, unless you enable pay as you go with your own spending limit. Crisp does not publish the pay as you go rate.
Worked examples
- Three person store, 300 AI chats a month: Essentials at $95. At Crisp's estimate, 300 chats use $15 to $30 of the $25 credits, so you may need small pay as you go top ups.
- Twelve person support team, 1,000 AI chats: Plus at $295 includes 20 seats and $75 credits (about 1,350 chats). Intercom Fin would bill $990 in outcomes alone at $0.99 each, before seats.
- Solo founder: Free for chat and inbox, or Mini at $45 for about 90 AI chats.

Key features
Hugo AI agent
Answers questions from your content, routes or escalates when unsure, and on Plus can take actions through connected tools. A Playground lets you compare model answers side by side before going live.
Model choice and EU processing
Crisp lets you pick the model family: OpenAI GPT (default auto selection), Anthropic Claude for complex reasoning, Google Gemini for cheaper high volume, Mistral for multilingual or European provider needs, or a Crisp hosted model that also serves as the fallback. A region selector offers EU processing on models that support it. You cannot bring your own API key.
Omnichannel shared inbox
From Essentials: website chat, email, WhatsApp Business, Instagram DMs, Messenger, SMS, Line, Viber and more in one inbox, with sub inboxes (2 on Essentials, 5 on Plus), routing rules and assignment.
Chatbot and workflow builder
A no code builder for scripted flows (lead capture, triage, FAQs) that do not consume AI credits, which keeps simple automation free.
Knowledge base and ticketing
A help center on Essentials and up, and a ticketing system with a customer portal on Plus.
Ecommerce integrations
Shopify, WooCommerce, Adobe Commerce and PrestaShop integrations are on every plan, including Free. Plus lists 100+ integrations overall.
What users say
Crisp's G2 listing shows 4.5 from 205 reviews, where users praise the flat price, clean inbox and generous seat counts. Its Trustpilot page tells another story: 2.0 from 55 reviews, 70% one star, with 22 in the last 12 months. Recurring complaints are slow or inconsistent support, accounts suspended quickly with requests for business documents, AI workflows switched off during the move to Hugo with escalation messages that cannot be customized, PDF content cut off in the knowledge crawler, and a refused refund on an unexpected annual renewal. Crisp replied to 38% of negative reviews. Read the Trustpilot complaints before you commit, and keep a backup of your setup.
Privacy and security
Crisp positions itself as EU hosted. Only workspace owners can start AI training or change its data, per its AI page. The model help article offers an EU region where available and configurations where the model provider does not retain data, and tells compliance teams to confirm model, region and processing terms before launch. It does not state whether your data trains models, and the AI page makes no SOC 2 or ISO claim (it links a security practices document instead). Regulated businesses should request Crisp's DPA.
Who it is for
- Small teams of 4 to 20 that want one predictable bill instead of per seat pricing.
- Startups and ecommerce shops that sell on WhatsApp and Instagram.
- European businesses that want EU hosted chat and EU model processing.
- Teams that want to choose their AI model.
Who should skip it
- Larger support orgs that need enterprise tooling, SLAs and deep reporting: Intercom Fin or Zendesk AI agents.
- Anyone who needs dependable fast support from the vendor, given the Trustpilot record.
- Teams that want a tool connected AI agent without paying $295.
- Shopify brands that want order actions built in: Gorgias.
Alternatives
- Tidio review: cheaper entry at $29, Lyro AI, strong for Shopify.
- Chatbase review: AI agent trained on your docs from $40 a month.
- Intercom Fin review: best resolution quality, $0.99 per outcome.
- HubSpot Customer Agent review: for teams on HubSpot Service Hub.
- Gorgias review: ecommerce helpdesk with order actions.
- More in Tidio vs Crisp, best AI chatbot for small business and best AI chatbots for business.
Verdict
Crisp is the cheapest predictable way to give a small team an AI agent and a shared inbox: 10 seats, omnichannel and about 450 AI chats for $95 a month, with real model choice. Pick it if price per seat is your biggest pain. Skip it if you need a vendor with strong support, since its Trustpilot record is poor, or if you need a tool connected agent without jumping to $295.

Is Crisp chat free?

How much does Crisp cost?
Crisp prices per workspace per month: Mini $45 with 4 seats, Essentials $95 with 10 seats, Plus $295 with 20 seats, and $10 per extra seat. Enterprise is quote only. VAT is added for EU businesses without a VAT number.
What is Crisp Hugo?
Hugo is Crisp's AI agent. It answers customers across chat, email and messaging channels from your snippets, knowledge base, website, past conversations and uploaded files, and routes to a human when it cannot help. On Plus it can connect to third party tools.
How do Crisp AI credits work?
Credits are a USD value that resets monthly: $5 on Mini, $25 on Essentials, $75 on Plus. Usage is token based and billed per conversation, from Hugo's first reply until it resolves, routes or escalates. Crisp estimates $0.05 to $0.10 per conversation, and when credits run out Hugo stops and chats go to humans unless you enable pay as you go.
Which AI model does Crisp use?
You choose. Crisp's help center lists OpenAI GPT (auto selected by default), Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, Mistral and a Crisp hosted model, with an EU region where a model supports it. Gemini uses fewer credits and the strongest Claude models use more. You cannot bring your own API key.
