What it is

PolyAI builds dialog agents for critical enterprise conversations, mostly phone calls, and aims to resolve them without escalation to a human. It started as a managed service where PolyAI designs, builds and tunes the agent for you, and has added self serve building through Dialog Studio and Wren, an AI partner that helps design, build, test and optimize agents.

PolyAI says it handles 100M+ calls a year with 99.994% trailing twelve month uptime and up to 10,000 concurrent conversations. Named customers include NatWest, UniCredit, PG&E, Foot Locker and The Melting Pot. A featured story says SafeRide Health scaled to a million calls a month. Other results on its site include 60% less seasonal hiring, 35,000 labor hours saved, 44% fewer abandoned calls and $250,000 from after hours bookings.

Pricing explained

PolyAI does not publish a rate card. Its pricing page says:

  • Ongoing use of the voice agent is priced per minute
  • The per minute price includes proactive performance improvements, maintenance and 24/7 support
  • Every plan includes a web ticket portal and emergency phone line, data security with compliance certificates and audits, a 99.9% uptime SLA, system monitoring and access to new features

No setup fee or minimum is published. That bundling matters when you compare with self serve platforms: on Retell or Vapi you pay less per minute but do the tuning yourself or pay someone to. On PolyAI, ongoing optimization is in the price. Ask for:

  • The per minute rate at your expected volume, and how it falls at higher volume
  • What counts as a billable minute (ringing, hold, transfer)
  • Implementation fees and timeline
  • Telephony costs if your carrier is not included

Key features

Dialog-RSN-1

PolyAI's flagship model reasons directly over raw call audio for turn taking, recognition and response in one audio native model, instead of chaining speech to text, an LLM and text to speech. PolyAI reports under 300 ms voice to voice responses in production, 89.8 turn taking accuracy and a 3.7% word error rate, and describes it as "first to respond, last to interrupt." It is now available on AWS SageMaker.

Dialog-RAVEN-3.5

A text based cascade for webchat, SMS and messaging, and for multilingual use, at about 280 to 600 ms, carrying the same agent across channels. PolyAI scores its models on Dialog-Eval, a benchmark it says is independently judged.

Dialog Agent and Wren

Dialog Agent brings flows, tools and brand voice into one place, from no code to full code on the same platform. Wren is an AI partner you can ask to build an agent, for example one that verifies customers by voice and SMS, then test and optimize it.

Developer tools

An agent development kit (ADK), client libraries, MCP support, a platform API, a model API and a CLI.

Use cases

PolyAI lists account management, authentication, call routing, billing and payments, booking and reservations, order management, troubleshooting and FAQ, across consumer services, financial services, healthcare, hotels, insurance, restaurants, retail, telecom, travel and utilities.

Integrations

Pre built integrations, a self serve Connect Portal and open APIs connect agents to existing systems. Listed integrations include Twilio, NICE, Zendesk, ServiceNow, Microsoft Teams, Slack and Zoom.

Analytics

Analytics and insights cover call outcomes and customer intent, and PolyAI's managed model means its team uses them to tune your agent continuously.

What users say

PolyAI does not have a public review base large enough to rate on the sites we checked; its buyers are large enterprises. Evidence comes from named customers and published results on its site, plus a Forrester Total Economic Impact report PolyAI commissioned. Treat vendor reported results as best case and ask for references in your industry.

Privacy and security

PolyAI lists SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS and GDPR. Calls use SIP over TLS with SRTP, with mTLS, SSO and role based access. Data residency is available in the US, UK, EU and APAC with no cross region transfer. PolyAI says your data is never trained on without opt in and never sold, and that guardrails, PII redaction and human in the loop review govern every turn. HIPAA is not stated on the pages we read, which matters if you plan to use it for patient calls.

Setup and rollout

PolyAI supports two paths. Most enterprise customers buy it as a managed service: PolyAI's team designs the conversation, builds integrations, tests and launches, then keeps tuning the agent under the per minute contract. Teams with their own developers can start in Dialog Studio with Wren, PolyAI's AI partner, and use the ADK, APIs and MCP to connect systems.

A typical managed rollout looks like this:

  1. Pick the first use case. Bookings and reservations, call routing, authentication or order status are common starting points because they are high volume and well defined.
  2. Connect systems. Use pre built integrations or the Connect Portal for your contact center, booking system or CRM.
  3. Design and test. Build flows, tools and brand voice in Dialog Agent, then test against real call recordings.
  4. Launch and route. Put the agent in front of a share of calls, with human in the loop review and handoff rules for sensitive cases.
  5. Tune continuously. Analytics on outcomes and intent drive ongoing improvements, which PolyAI includes in the per minute price.

Its customer stories, such as 42,000 missed calls turned into bookings, come from this model of continuous tuning rather than a one time build.

Who it is for

  • Enterprises with heavy inbound call volume and seasonal peaks
  • Restaurant groups, hotels and travel brands taking bookings by phone
  • Banks, insurers and utilities that need authentication, payments and PCI DSS
  • Teams that want a vendor to build and continuously tune the agent

Who should skip it

  • Small businesses; there is no published price and the model is enterprise first
  • Teams that want to pay the lowest possible per minute rate; see Telnyx
  • Healthcare buyers who need HIPAA confirmed up front
  • Developers who want to choose every model provider; see Vapi

Alternatives

  • Synthflow: no code enterprise platform with Genesys and Avaya connectors
  • Bland AI: its own models, one all in rate, HIPAA listed
  • Retell AI: self serve builder with published pricing
  • Sierra: one enterprise agent across voice, chat and messaging

Verdict

PolyAI is a top choice for large brands that want phone calls handled well without building the agent themselves. Its own audio native model, 90% resolution on its largest deployments, 99.994% uptime and a per minute price that includes ongoing tuning make it a strong managed option. The weak points are transparency and fit: no published rate, no HIPAA statement on the pages we read, and nothing meant for small teams. Get a quote if your line takes tens of thousands of calls a month; otherwise start with Retell.
