tl;dv is the best free pick for teams that want a video archive of every meeting and EU data hosting: recordings, transcripts and storage are unlimited on the free plan. AI notes stop after 10 meetings, though, and paid seats at $18 a seat annual ($29 monthly) cost more than Fireflies or Otter, so it suits European and sales teams more than budget solo users.

What it is

tl;dv (short for "too long, didn't view") is a meeting recorder and AI note taker for Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, with iOS and Android apps. It records video and audio, transcribes in 30+ languages, writes AI meeting notes and pushes them to your CRM and other tools. The company is based in Germany, hosts and stores data in the EU, and says it serves 2M+ users.

Where Fathom built its pitch on unlimited free notes and Fireflies on cheap paid seats, tl;dv built it on two things: free unlimited video recordings and European data protection. Its paid tiers then add sales coaching features, like playbook monitoring and multi meeting insights, that put it closer to conversation intelligence tools than to simple transcript apps.

Pricing explained

Plan Monthly Annual AI notes Web recordings per week Other limits
Free $0 $0 10 meetings 40 5 Ask AI queries, data retained up to 3 months
Pro $29 per seat $18 per seat Unlimited 80 Templates, follow up email drafts, CRM, API, webhooks, MCP
Business $39 per seat $29 per seat Unlimited 120 Custom vocabulary, multi meeting insights, scheduled AI reports, playbook monitoring
Enterprise Custom Custom Unlimited Custom SCIM, custom SSO, privately hosted AI, activity logs

Prices are as listed on tldv.io/app/pricing in October 2026. The pricing page advertises up to 40% off on annual plans, and Pro's annual rate is 38% below monthly.

Free is generous on video, stingy on AI. You can record and transcribe every meeting and keep the files, but AI notes only cover 10 meetings and data retention is up to 3 months. After that you have a transcript archive, not a note taker.

Pro is expensive monthly. At $29 a seat it costs more than Fireflies Pro ($18), Otter Pro ($16.99) and Fathom Premium ($20). On annual billing it falls to $18, still above Fireflies ($10) and Otter ($8.33).

Business is a coaching tier. The $29 annual step adds playbook monitoring, objection handling insights and scheduled reports. If you run a sales team, compare it with Fathom Business ($25 annual) and Avoma's add ons.

Hidden limits. Each recording is capped at 3 hours, and web recordings are rationed per week (40, 80 and 120). Long workshops or all day sessions will need splitting.

Key features

Unlimited free recordings

Free accounts get unlimited video recordings, transcription and storage. This is the most generous free video offer among the major tools; Fireflies stores only 400 minutes per team for free, and Otter has no video archive on Basic.

AI meeting notes and templates

AI notes summarize decisions, action items and topics. Pro adds custom templates so a sales discovery call and a product interview produce different notes, plus follow up email drafts.

Multi meeting insights and reports

Business can analyze patterns across many meetings, such as recurring objections or feature requests, and send scheduled AI reports. This is the feature that separates tl;dv from simple note takers.

Sales coaching

Playbook monitoring checks whether reps follow a framework, and objection handling insights flag how calls go. These sit on Business with no usage fees, according to the pricing page.

Integrations, API and MCP

Pro connects to 5,000+ apps (through Zapier), CRMs with field mapping, and includes an API, webhooks and an MCP server so assistants like Claude can query your meeting library. Otter keeps its API on Enterprise.

Languages

Transcription in 30+ languages on every plan, including Free. That beats Otter's six, trails Fireflies' 100+.

Mobile apps

tl;dv now has iOS and Android apps for in person capture. The iOS app is new and had no ratings when we checked in October 2026.

What users say

tl;dv holds 4.7 on G2 from 546 reviews as of October 2026, and its homepage shows a 4.7 rating badge alongside the 2M+ user claim. Trustpilot tells a different story: 2.1 from just 10 reviews, too small a sample to weigh heavily but consistent in its themes.

The Trustpilot complaints are about account access (paying users locked out of recordings for long periods), slow support replies, login and feature bugs, and one reviewer who felt the free plan pushed them into a paid trial. The G2 score, built on fifty times as many reviews, suggests most teams do not hit these problems, but the support complaints are worth testing: send a question to support during your first week and see how fast it comes back.

Privacy and security

tl;dv makes privacy the center of its pitch, and the claims are specific:

  • Hosting: data is hosted and stored in the EU, in ISO 27001 certified data centers with AES-256 encryption.
  • Certifications: GDPR and SOC 2 compliance listed, plus EU AI Act compliance.
  • Training: the homepage states it will never use your recordings or transcripts to train AI.
  • Model provider: tl;dv says it partners with Anthropic, anonymizes metadata and processes meetings in randomized, small batches.
  • Enterprise: privately hosted AI on request, SCIM and custom SSO.

For European companies that need data to stay in the EU, this is the clearest offer among the mainstream note takers. US teams that need HIPAA should note that tl;dv does not list HIPAA on its pricing page; Fathom and Fireflies (Enterprise) do.

Who it is for

  • European companies that need EU hosting and a clear no training policy.
  • Product and research teams that want a free archive of video recordings to clip and share.
  • Sales teams that want coaching and CRM mapping without buying a full revenue intelligence platform.

Who should skip it

  • Budget teams. Fireflies Pro is $10 a seat annual with 100+ languages, against tl;dv's $18.
  • Solo users who want AI notes free. Fathom gives unlimited free summaries; tl;dv stops at 10 meetings.
  • US healthcare teams that need a BAA.
  • People who run meetings over 3 hours.

Alternatives

Verdict

tl;dv is the right pick for two kinds of buyer: European teams that want EU hosting with a written no training promise, and teams that want every meeting on video for free. For those buyers it beats Fireflies and Otter on its own terms. For everyone else, the math points elsewhere: AI notes stop at 10 free meetings and Pro costs $18 to $29 a seat, more than the market leaders. Start on Free, record everything, and upgrade to Pro on annual billing once the AI notes prove their worth.
