Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
Dialpad's AI receptionist fits teams that already run their phones on Dialpad, or that want to replace the phone system and the front desk in one purchase. It handles natural language routing, booking and handoffs with full context, backed by SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and a HIPAA BAA. The catch: AI agent pricing is credit based and not published.

A fit for offices already on Dialpad or shopping for a full phone system with AI built in, with industry setups for legal intake, healthcare and real estate. AI agent pricing is conversation based and not published, so you cannot compare cost per call without a sales call.

What it is
Dialpad is a cloud communications company that sells a business phone system (Connect), a contact center (Support), a sales dialer (Sell) and AI agents (Resolve). The AI receptionist is a Resolve AI agent placed at the front of your phone line. Instead of a keypad menu, callers say what they need and the agent answers, routes, books or escalates.
Dialpad markets the receptionist to medical and dental offices, law firms, real estate, restaurants, car dealerships and home services such as HVAC and plumbing, with dedicated setups for legal intake, healthcare, insurance and retail.
There are no staffed backup receptionists. When a call needs a person, it routes to your team by intent and carries the full conversation context forward.
Pricing explained
Dialpad publishes its phone and contact center prices but not its AI agent prices. As listed on the Dialpad pricing page in October 2026, with annual billing selected:
| Product | Plan | Price per user per month | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resolve (AI agents) | Credit pool | Not published | AI Agent Credits, used per conversation when the AI acts |
| Connect | Standard | $15 | HD calls and meetings, transcripts, summaries |
| Connect | Pro | $25 | Key CRM integrations, 24/7 support |
| Connect | Enterprise | Custom | SSO, unlimited locations |
| Support | Essentials | $89 | Omnichannel routing, sentiment, analytics |
| Support | Advanced | $119 | Live Coach, quality management |
| Support | Premium | $149 | Workforce management |
Monthly billed prices were not shown on the page we opened, and the plan toggle suggests they are higher. Connect has a 14 day free trial.
How Resolve credits work, per Dialpad: you buy a pool of AI Agent Credits, and credits are used only when the AI delivers value, meaning it retrieves information or executes a real action. A call where the agent only greets and transfers may cost little or nothing. That is a fairer model than per minute billing in theory, but without a published credit price you cannot compare it with RingCentral's $0.50 per minute or Nextiva's $0.99 per interaction.
A minimum budget to plan around: a 3 person office on Connect Pro pays $75 a month for phones with annual billing, plus Resolve credits. Ask sales three questions: the price per credit, the average credits per receptionist call for a business like yours, and whether unused credits expire. Then run the result through the calculator and the AI receptionist cost guide.
Key features
Natural language routing
Callers speak normally and the agent routes them to the right person or queue, replacing a press 1 for sales menu. You describe how calls should be handled in plain language instead of building a phone tree.
Booking during the call
The agent checks connected calendars and books, reschedules or confirms a time in the same conversation.
Context carrying handoffs
When a call escalates, the human agent receives what the caller already said, so callers do not repeat themselves.
No code builder
A builder lets non technical staff define what each AI agent does in plain language, with industry setups as starting points.
Full phone and contact center underneath
Because the agent lives inside Dialpad, every call also gets Dialpad's transcripts and AI summaries, and Support plans add live coaching, quality management and workforce management.
Governance and PII controls
Dialpad's Guardian layer monitors AI agent interactions in real time for compliance and data exposure. The platform includes machine learning PII redaction and the ability to pause call recording for sensitive data.
Setup
Dialpad says setup takes less than you might expect compared with a traditional IVR: you describe how you want calls handled. If you are new to Dialpad, the real project is moving your numbers and users onto Dialpad Connect; that is a phone system migration, not a quick call forward, so plan it like one if you have more than a handful of lines.
What users say
| Site | Rating | Reviews | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trustpilot | 4.1 | 3,211 | 74% five star, 10% one star, 422 reviews in 12 months |
| App Store (Dialpad) | 4.6 | 4,563 | Main Dialpad app |
These ratings cover Dialpad overall, not the AI receptionist alone. Praise: an intuitive app, clear settings, reliable calling for remote teams, and AI call summaries. Complaints: slow support, with some reviewers waiting weeks for answers, and two detailed reports of account suspensions or cancellations without warning, one mid call. Dialpad replies to 46% of negative reviews, lower than Nextiva (93%) or Quo (100%).
Privacy and security
Dialpad publishes the deepest compliance list in this group: SOC 2 Type II, annual ISO 27001:2022, 27017 and 27018 certification, CSA STAR membership, GDPR support, and HIPAA readiness with a BAA option. Data is encrypted at rest with AES 256 on Google Cloud and in transit with TLS, with SSO and role based access. Its trust page does not say whether customer conversations train its AI models; ask for that in writing.

Who it is for
- Teams already on Dialpad that want AI on the front line
- Offices replacing their phone system and receptionist at the same time
- Healthcare and legal front desks with an IT owner and a compliance checklist
- Multi team operations that need a contact center, not just an answering bot
Who should skip it
- Anyone who wants a published price. RingCentral AI Receptionist lists $49 for 100 minutes and Nextiva XBert $99 for 100 interactions.
- Businesses that want to keep their current phone system. RingCentral AIR works with other systems by forwarding or SIP.
- Very small offices. Quo Sona bundles a phone line and AI calls from $19 per user with published per call rates.
- Trades on ServiceTitan. See Avoca or Sameday AI.
Alternatives
- RingCentral AI Receptionist: six languages, published per minute rate.
- Nextiva XBert: calls, texts and chat on one meter.
- Quo Sona: cheapest phone plus AI bundle.
- Smith.ai: AI plus live human backup.
Verdict
Dialpad's AI receptionist is a strong option inside a strong platform: plain language setup, context carrying handoffs, a full contact center behind it and the best published compliance credentials of the phone companies we compared. It scores lower on value because the AI is credit priced with no public rate, and because you need Dialpad as your phone system. If you are already a Dialpad customer, ask for a credit quote. If you are not, price RingCentral and Nextiva first. Full rankings: best AI receptionists.
