Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
Quo Sona is the cheapest way to get a business phone system and an AI receptionist on one bill: $19 per user a month includes 10 AI answered calls, and paid tiers bring calls down to $0.45 each. It suits small teams that want after hours and overflow covered. The limits: it works only on Quo numbers, and it texts booking links instead of writing into your calendar.

What it is
Quo, formerly OpenPhone, is a business phone app for small teams: numbers, calling, texting, shared inboxes and call flows on desktop and mobile. Sona is the AI voice agent built into it. You drag a Sona block into a call flow, give it your business profile (hours, services, prices, FAQs), and it greets callers, answers questions, captures lead details with your questions, takes messages, transfers to the right teammate and texts scheduling links or forms during the call. Every Sona call is recorded, transcribed and summarized in the Quo app.
Because Sona lives in the call flow, you can place different Sona steps for different moments: one for business hours overflow, one for after hours, one for a new client intake line.
Pricing explained
Sona pricing has two parts: the Quo seat and Sona credits. As listed on Quo's pricing page in October 2026:
Quo phone plans
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | Annual saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $19 per user | $15 per user | $48 a year |
| Business | $33 per user | $23 per user | $120 a year |
| Scale | $47 per user | $35 per user | $144 a year |
Sona credit tiers (1 call = 100 credits)
| Tier | Price per month | Credits | Calls | Extra calls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Included | $0 | 1,000 | 10 | $1.00 each |
| Tier 2 | $25 | 4,000 | 40 | $0.75 each |
| Tier 3 | $49 | 10,000 | 100 | $0.65 each |
| Tier 4 | $99 | 25,000 | 250 | $0.55 each |
| Tier 5 | $199 | 60,000 | 600 | $0.45 each |
You can cap usage to avoid surprise charges. Extra phone numbers cost $5 a month each; international calling and automated SMS ($0.01 per outgoing text via API, Zapier or Make) are billed separately.
What one Starter seat plus Sona costs at common volumes, monthly billing, picking the cheapest tier:
| AI calls a month | Cheapest setup | Monthly total | Cost per AI call |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | Seat only | $19 | Included |
| 30 | Seat plus 20 calls at $1.00 | $39 | $1.30 |
| 50 | Seat plus Tier 2 plus 10 calls at $0.75 | $51.50 | $1.03 |
| 100 | Seat plus Tier 3 | $68 | $0.68 |
| 250 | Seat plus Tier 4 | $118 | $0.47 |
| 600 | Seat plus Tier 5 | $218 | $0.36 |
Those totals include the phone line itself, which other AI receptionists do not. At 100 calls, Sona plus a Quo seat costs $68 against $99 for Nextiva XBert and about $149 for 300 minutes on RingCentral. See the AI receptionist cost guide or plug in your own numbers in the calculator.
Key features
Call flow placement
Sona is a block in Quo's visual call flow. You can run it on every call, only after hours, or only when your team does not pick up, and run separate Sona configurations for each scenario.
Business profile and custom questions
You give Sona your hours, services, prices and FAQs, and set the questions it asks to capture leads. Scenario instructions handle cases like new client intake.
Transfers and messages
Sona transfers callers to the right teammate or department and takes messages when no one is available.
Booking by text link
During the call, Sona texts the caller a scheduling link or form. That is simpler than true calendar booking and works with any scheduler, but the caller has to finish the booking.
Summaries and transcripts
Each call is recorded, summarized and transcribed, and the summary appears in the conversation thread on every device.
Test before you pay
Active Quo users can configure and test Sona in a call flow before buying credits, and a demo line lets you hear it first.
Limitations
Quo is upfront about these on the Sona page:
- Quo numbers only. You cannot attach Sona to RingCentral, Nextiva or a carrier line.
- Inbound only. No outbound calls.
- Three languages, no switching. English, Spanish and French, set per step.
- No direct calendar writes. Booking happens by text link.
- Two charges. The seat and the Sona tier bill separately.
What users say
| Site | Rating | Reviews | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trustpilot | 4.2 | 1,091 | 72% five star, 19% one star |
| App Store (Quo) | 4.4 | 10,814 | Quo phone app |
These ratings cover Quo overall. Praise: a clean interface, fast setup and responsive support reps. Complaints: slow fixes on technical issues, and some reports of glitches, lost contacts and service interruptions; one detailed review describes a call transfer bug that stayed unfixed for four weeks. Quo replies to every negative review, usually within 48 hours.
Privacy and security
Quo holds SOC 2 Type II, supports HIPAA, and signs business associate agreements with healthcare customers. It says it does not sell or share your data beyond providing the service. Its security page does not say whether Sona conversations are used to train AI models; Quo directs those questions to its trust center.
Who it is for
- Small teams that need a business phone system and AI answering together
- Owners who want after hours and overflow covered for under $70 a month
- Service businesses whose customers are fine finishing a booking by text
- Healthcare practices that want a BAA on a low cost phone system
- Very low volume, where 10 included calls may be enough
Who should skip it
- Anyone keeping their current phone system. Try RingCentral AI Receptionist, which works by forwarding or SIP.
- Businesses that need direct calendar booking. Nextiva XBert and Upfirst book into calendars.
- Multilingual callers who switch languages. RingCentral switches between six languages mid call.
- Trades booking into field service software. See Jobber AI Receptionist, Avoca or Sameday AI.
Alternatives
- Nextiva XBert: calls, texts and chat, $99 for 100 interactions.
- RingCentral AI Receptionist: six languages, $49 for 100 minutes.
- Dialpad AI Receptionist: AI agents on a larger phone and contact center platform.
- Upfirst: per call AI receptionist from $24.95 that works with any number.
Verdict
Sona gives small teams the most for the least: a real business phone system plus AI answering from $19, published per call rates down to $0.45, a usage cap, SOC 2 Type II and a BAA. It is a front line helper rather than a full receptionist, since it books by text link, speaks three languages without switching, and only runs on Quo numbers. If you are already on Quo, turn it on for after hours today. If you are choosing a phone system and want AI included, Quo is the cheapest bundle we found. Full rankings: best AI receptionists.

Posh4.1Frequently asked questions
How much does OpenPhone Sona cost?
Sona comes with every Quo plan (Starter $19, Business $33, Scale $47 per user per month billed monthly) and includes 1,000 credits, or 10 calls, a month. After that, calls are $1.00 each, or you buy a tier: $25 for 40 calls, $49 for 100, $99 for 250 or $199 for 600, as listed in October 2026.
Is OpenPhone now Quo?
Yes. OpenPhone rebranded as Quo, and Sona is Quo's AI agent. Its own page still refers to calls being logged in your OpenPhone workflow.
How many credits does a Sona call use?
One call uses 100 credits, per Quo's pricing page, so the 1,000 included credits cover 10 calls. Quo does not publish a separate per minute charge for Sona.
Can Sona book appointments?
Sona sends callers a scheduling link or form by text during the call. It does not write directly into a calendar, so the caller finishes the booking themselves.
Can I use Sona with my existing phone system?
No. Sona works only inside Quo's phone system. You need Quo numbers, either new ones or numbers ported to Quo.
What languages does Sona speak?
English, Spanish and French, with more in development. It cannot detect or switch languages mid call, so you set the language per Sona step.
Is there a free trial of Sona?
Quo offers a 7 day trial of its phone plans. Sona's own 7 day trial requires a paid Quo plan billed through Stripe, an admin or owner, and no earlier Sona trial on the workspace. You can also configure and test Sona in a call flow before buying credits.
Can Sona make outbound calls?
No. Sona handles inbound calls only.
