Poe Review 2026: Pricing, Points, Models and Verdict
Quora's multi model chat app judged on its published prices, points system, model access and user ratings, as of October 2026.

Fact checked against each company's published pricing, documentation and verified user ratings. How we score
Poe is the cheapest way to use many companies' AI models in one app. Basic costs $4.99 per month and Plus $19.99, and one points balance covers OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, image, video and audio models, plus an OpenAI compatible API. The tradeoff is the points meter: heavy models drain a month of points fast, and Poe does not publish allowances on its public pages.

Poe is the cheapest way to try many frontier models in one app, with group chats that put several bots in one thread and an OpenAI compatible API that draws on the same points. The tradeoff is the points system: heavy models drain a month of points fast, and Poe does not show point allotments on its public pages.

What it is
Poe is a chat app from Quora, Inc. that puts models from many vendors behind one subscription. Its App Store listing describes fast access to the latest models, multimedia generation, the ability to combine and compare models in one chat, and tools to build custom bots. Poe's site currently highlights GPT-5, Claude Sonnet 5, DeepSeek R1 and Veo 3.1 among thousands of available bots.
Three things set Poe apart:
- Model breadth. Text, image, video and audio models from many vendors sit side by side.
- Group chats. You can bring several bots into one thread and compare or combine their answers.
- User built bots. Anyone can build a bot with a prompt, or connect a server bot with full code control, and creators can earn money per message.
Semrush data cited on Wikipedia put Poe's site at about 8 million visits in August 2026.
Pricing explained
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Limited daily points |
| Basic | $4.99 | $49.99 | Monthly points allowance across web, mobile and API |
| Plus | $19.99 | $199.99 | Larger monthly points allowance |
| Add on points | Varies | Extra points when your allowance runs out |
Prices are from the US App Store in October 2026. The App Store also still lists an older "Poe Monthly Subscription" at $19.99 and "Yearly" at $199.99, which match Plus.
How points work
Every message costs points, and the price depends on the model and the size of the request. Poe says it intends to price points so that model access costs the same as the underlying provider charges. That has two consequences:
- Small models are cheap, frontier models are not. A quick question on a small text model uses few points. A long reasoning task, an image or a video clip uses many.
- Your plan is a budget, not a message count. Poe does not show point allotments per plan on its public pages, so you see your balance only after you sign up.
Annual billing saves about 17% on both plans: $49.99 against $59.88 for twelve months of Basic, and $199.99 against $239.88 for Plus.
Worked example. If you use one premium model for long sessions every day, Plus at $19.99 may run out before the month ends, and you would pay for add on points. The vendor's own plan, such as ChatGPT Plus at $20 or Claude Pro at $20, usually gives more usage of that one model. If you use five different models lightly, Poe Basic at $4.99 is far cheaper than five subscriptions.

Key features
Many vendors' models in one app
The main reason to use Poe. You can switch between OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and open models mid project, and use media generators from companies like Runway and ElevenLabs, per the App Store description.
Group chats and model comparison
Poe lets you put several bots in one chat to compare answers or have them build on each other. This is handy for checking facts across models or getting a second opinion on code.
Custom bots
You can build a bot on top of any model with your own instructions, or connect a server bot or an API bot that brings any model to Poe through a Chat Completions or Responses endpoint, per Poe's creator docs.
Creator monetization
Poe pays creators through a monetization program. Since April 2024 it has supported price per message earnings, and the Bot Monetization API lets developers set earnings per message in code.
OpenAI compatible API
Subscribers can call Poe's API with their existing subscription points at no additional cost, with a rate limit of 500 requests per minute. For a developer who wants to test many models through one key, that is a real convenience.
Cross device sync
Chats sync across devices, per the App Store listing.
What users say
- App Store: 4.7 from about 54,000 ratings. Praise centers on access to many models without many subscriptions.
- Trustpilot: 1.9 from 63 reviews, 13 in the last year.
Recurring complaints across both: points running out quickly on heavy models, charges for failed or empty responses, slow refunds, unclear pricing changes, and some bugs. An App Store reviewer described a monthly subscription lasting two weeks of points and asked for early renewal. Early reviewers in 2023 also objected to the then $199.99 annual price. The pattern is consistent: people love the breadth and dislike the meter.
Privacy and security
Poe's privacy policy is published on its site. Because Poe routes your messages to third party model providers, each provider's handling also applies to what you send. Poe does not list a business plan with admin controls, SSO or compliance certifications on its public pages, and we found no SOC 2 report listed.
Practical advice: treat Poe as a consumer tool. Do not paste confidential company data, customer records or credentials. Teams that need data controls should use ChatGPT Business or Claude Team, which state they do not train on business data by default.
Who it is for
- Model tourists who want to compare GPT, Claude, Gemini and open models side by side.
- Light users of many tools who would otherwise pay several $20 subscriptions.
- Developers who want one OpenAI compatible endpoint for many models.
- Bot builders who want an audience and per message earnings.
Who should skip it
- Heavy users of one model. The vendor's own plan gives more usage.
- Businesses with data rules. No published admin or compliance plan.
- People who hate metering. Points are a budget you have to watch.
Alternatives
- ChatGPT: deepest single vendor app, Plus at $20 per month.
- Perplexity: model choice plus cited search on Pro.
- Claude: strong for writing and coding, Pro at $20 per month.
- Duck.ai: several vendors' small models free and private, stronger ones from $9.99.

Verdict
Poe is the best value for breadth: $4.99 gets you a taste of almost every major model, group chats are useful, and the API sharing the same points is a nice bonus for developers. It is a poor value for depth, because points drain fast on frontier models. Start on Basic, watch your balance for a month, and move to a single vendor's plan if one model wins.

How much does Poe cost?
Poe has a free tier with limited daily points. On the App Store, Basic costs $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year, and Plus costs $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year. You can buy add on points if you run out.
How do Poe points work?
Every message uses points, and the number depends on the model and the length of the request. Poe says it aims to charge the same for model access as the underlying providers charge. Points are shared across web, mobile and the API. Poe does not show each plan's point allowance on its public pages.
Is Poe worth it?
Yes if you want to try several vendors' models without paying for each one separately; Basic at $4.99 is the cheapest entry to that. If you mostly use one model heavily, that vendor's own plan usually gives more usage for the money.
Is Poe better than ChatGPT Plus?
Poe gives you breadth: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek and media models in one app, plus group chats with several bots. ChatGPT Plus gives you depth: more usage of OpenAI's models and tools like the Work agent and Codex for $20 per month.
Does Poe have an API?
Yes. Poe offers an OpenAI compatible API, and all subscribers can use their subscription points with it at no extra cost. The rate limit is 500 requests per minute.
Who owns Poe?
Quora, Inc., the company behind the Quora question and answer site co-founded by Adam D'Angelo.
Can creators make money on Poe?
Yes. Poe runs a creator monetization program, and since April 2024 it has supported a price per message model for bot creators. Developers can set earnings per message through the Bot Monetization API.
Why do my Poe points run out so fast?
Large reasoning, image and video models cost far more points per message than small text models. Reviewers on the App Store and Trustpilot report a month of points lasting days on heavy models. Use smaller models for routine questions and save premium models for hard tasks.
