Writesonic is worth it if you need AI search visibility data and content in one tool. Every plan tracks prompts in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews and includes 15 to 50 AI articles a month, starting at $79 per month billed annually. If you just need a writing assistant, $99 a month is the wrong spend.

By Writesonic

Writesonic has turned from a cheap AI writer into a GEO platform: every plan tracks prompts in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews and includes 15 to 50 AI articles a month. That is good value for a marketer who wants visibility data and content in one place, but at $99 per month to start it is the wrong tool if you only need a writer.

What it is

Writesonic built its name as a low cost AI writer and the Chatsonic chatbot. In 2026 it sells something different: "the AI search growth engine," a platform for GEO (generative engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization). The pitch is to find which AI prompts recommend your competitors instead of you, then fix it with content, citations and technical changes, and prove the lift in traffic and revenue.

The product has four parts:

  • AI visibility tracking. Daily tracking of prompts and the answers AI platforms give, with brand mentions and, on higher plans, sentiment.
  • AI articles. A monthly allowance of AI written articles, with brand voices.
  • Site audits. Technical checks of your pages for AI search readiness.
  • Agentic workflows and the Action Center. An AI agent that rewrites pages, adds FAQs and comparison tables, and suggests on page and off page actions.

Writesonic says 10,000+ marketing teams use it, including Amazon, Unilever, Acer and Zoho, and that its dataset covers 2 billion+ AI conversations across 50+ markets and languages. It integrates with Google Analytics, Search Console, Looker Studio, Keyword Planner, WordPress, an API and MCP.

Pricing explained

Writesonic's pricing page in October 2026 lists four plans. Annual billing saves 20%.

Plan Monthly Annual (per month) Prompts tracked daily AI articles per month Users
Starter $99 $79 50 15 1
Basic $249 $199 100 25 2
Growth $499 $399 200 50 3
Enterprise Custom Custom Custom Custom Custom

What else changes by plan:

Plan Answers tracked daily Site audits Brand voices Projects Extras
Starter 50 10 per month, 100 pages each 1 1 10 trial agent runs
Basic 300 20 per month, 1,200 pages each 5 1 50 trial agent runs
Growth 600 50 per month, 2,500 pages each 10 2 Sentiment analysis, Action Center trial (5 off page and 5 on page actions)
Enterprise Custom Custom frequency Custom Custom All 9 AI platforms, full Action Center, SSO, SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA

Hidden costs. Extra users are $50 per user per month, and Starter includes only one. Growth can add 20 articles for $100 per month. Agentic workflows on the self serve plans are trial runs, not full access. Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Copilot and Google AI Mode tracking require Enterprise.

Cost per article. On Starter annual, $79 buys 15 articles plus tracking, about $5.27 per article if you ignore everything else. On Growth annual, $399 for 50 articles is about $7.98 each, but you are mainly paying for 200 tracked prompts and sentiment.

The trial runs 7 days with no card. See how this compares with Jasper's per seat model in Jasper vs Writesonic and rival prices in the Price Index.

Key features

AI visibility tracking

Each plan tracks a set number of prompts and answers every day on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. You see whether your brand is mentioned, which competitors are recommended and, on Growth, the sentiment of those answers. Enterprise widens coverage to 9 platforms.

AI article writer and brand voices

Articles are generated to fill visibility gaps, with 1 to 10 brand voices depending on plan. The output is aimed at ranking and being cited, with structured sections such as FAQs and comparison tables. There is no plagiarism checker listed on the pricing page.

Site audits

Audits check your pages for issues that affect AI and search visibility. Starter covers 10 audits of up to 100 pages a month; Growth covers 50 audits of up to 2,500 pages.

Action Center and agents

The Action Center turns findings into tasks, such as rewriting a page or earning a citation on another site. Growth gets a trial with 5 off page and 5 on page actions a month; Enterprise gets full access with a dedicated strategist.

Setup

Sign up needs no card. A practical first week: connect Google Search Console and Analytics, enter the 50 prompts your buyers actually ask (for example "best payroll software for restaurants"), and let tracking run for a few days before judging results, since AI answers vary from day to day. Then run a site audit on your top pages and use a handful of article credits on the prompts where competitors are named and you are not. That gives you a before and after you can show at the end of the trial.

What users say

Writesonic holds 4.6 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 5,763 reviews, with 87% five star and 2% one star. Only 9 of those reviews were posted in the last 12 months, so most describe the older AI writer, not the current GEO platform.

Older praise focuses on fast blog drafts and easy use. Recent complaints include charges after cancellation, features moved behind higher tiers, price increases and slow support. One long time user argues Writesonic became uncompetitive against free chat assistants for plain writing, which matches the company's shift toward visibility tracking.

Privacy and security

Writesonic's Enterprise plan lists SSO and SAML, SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and GDPR, with access controls for users and projects. The self serve plans do not list these controls. The pages we read do not state whether your content is used to train models, so ask before uploading confidential material.

Who it is for

  • In house marketers who need to report how AI answers mention the brand and act on it.
  • SEO and content teams that want tracking, audits and articles in one subscription.
  • Agencies reporting AI visibility to clients, on Growth or Enterprise.

Who should skip it

  • Writers who just need drafts. Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus cost $20 per month.
  • Teams that need a content score against Google results. Surfer is built for that, from $49 per month billed annually.
  • Brand led marketing teams producing campaigns. Jasper's Brand Voice, Knowledge and 100+ agents fit better.
  • Anyone on a tight budget. QuillBot, Wordtune and Rytr all cost under $20 per month.

Alternatives

  • Jasper: marketing content with brand controls, $59 per seat billed annually.
  • Surfer: content editor with SEO scoring and AI prompt tracking, from $49 per month billed annually.
  • Copy.ai: $29 Chat plan for 5 seats.
  • Claude: $20 per month for long form drafting.

Verdict

Writesonic is no longer a cheap AI writer, and judging it as one misses the point. As a GEO platform it is reasonably priced: $79 per month on annual billing for daily tracking of 50 prompts on the three AI surfaces most buyers care about, plus 15 articles and site audits, with a no card trial.

The limits are coverage and seats. Only Enterprise tracks Claude, Perplexity and Copilot, Starter has one user, and agent features are trials below Enterprise. Buy it if AI visibility is a reporting line for you; otherwise choose a writer.

Frequently asked questions

Is Writesonic worth it?

If you want to know how ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews talk about your brand and also need AI articles to fix the gaps, yes. Starter at $79 per month billed annually includes 50 tracked prompts a day and 15 articles a month. If you only want an AI writer, it is overpriced next to a $20 assistant.

How much does Writesonic cost?

Starter is $99 per month or $79 billed annually, Basic $249 or $199, and Growth $499 or $399. Enterprise is custom. Annual billing saves 20%. Extra users cost $50 each per month, and Growth can add 20 articles for $100 per month.

Does Writesonic have a free plan?

No. Writesonic offers a 7 day free trial with no credit card required. Its pricing FAQ says you can explore with full access during the trial.

Is Writesonic still an AI writer?

Writesonic now describes itself as an AI search growth engine for GEO and AEO. Every plan still includes an AI article writer (15 to 50 articles a month), brand voices and an AI agent that rewrites pages, but the product is built around AI visibility tracking.

What is GEO in Writesonic?

GEO, or generative engine optimization, means improving how AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews mention and cite your brand. Writesonic tracks prompts and answers on those platforms, audits your site and suggests content and citation fixes.

Which AI platforms does Writesonic track?

Starter, Basic and Growth track ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Enterprise tracks 9: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews and Muse Spark.

Is Writesonic secure?

Writesonic lists SSO and SAML, SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and GDPR on its Enterprise plan. The lower plans do not list these controls, so teams with compliance needs should confirm coverage before buying Starter or Basic.
