AI minutes count half, English and Spanish are included, and plans run month to month with no setup fee. The tradeoff is cost: about $1.38 to $1.64 per AI minute, several times what pure AI receptionists charge.

What it is

Abby Connect, at abby.com, is a virtual receptionist company with 20+ years of human answering behind it. It says it serves over 6,200 businesses from a US base with an office in Las Vegas. Its newer AI receptionist greets callers, answers questions, screens and transfers calls, takes messages and books appointments. When a caller asks for a person, or a call is flagged (a legal matter, a distressed patient, a VIP), the AI warm transfers to a human Abby receptionist on the same call.

That hybrid design is the point. Most AI receptionists hand off only to your own staff; most answering services are human only. Abby mixes both inside one subscription, billed in a shared unit.

Pricing explained

Abby sells plans in Abby Minutes, as listed on its pricing page in October 2026:

Plan Price per month Abby Minutes Human minutes AI minutes (max) Rate per Abby Minute Rate per AI minute
Starter $164 50 50 100 $3.28 $1.64
Essential $329 100 100 200 $3.29 $1.65
Professional $599 200 200 400 $3.00 $1.50
Growth $1,380 500 500 1,000 $2.76 $1.38
Enterprise Custom Custom Custom Custom Custom Custom

The rates per minute are our math from the listed prices. Overage is "billed at your plan's Abby Minute rate", so a Starter customer who runs 20 AI minutes over pays about $32.80.

In practice, most accounts will mix human and AI minutes. Example on Essential ($329, 100 Abby Minutes): 120 AI minutes use 60 Abby Minutes, leaving 40 for human minutes. That is 160 answered minutes in total.

Every plan includes a dedicated receptionist team, the portal and AbbyGO app, white glove onboarding, 1,000+ integrations, HIPAA options, encrypted call recordings, custom call handling and hours, bilingual support, call blocking and voicemail. There is no setup fee, no long term contract and a free trial on every plan. Annual pricing is not listed.

For comparison, a pure AI receptionist such as Rosie lists 1,000 minutes for $149, and RingCentral charges $0.50 per minute after 100. Abby's value is the human backup, not the AI price. See the AI receptionist cost guide and run both scenarios in the calculator.

Key features

Hybrid human and AI answering

The AI answers routine calls; humans take anything the AI flags or any caller who asks for a person, on the same call. Abby says no caller gets stuck in a loop. You control which call types go to people.

AI minutes count half

Because an AI minute uses 0.5 Abby Minutes, shifting routine calls to AI stretches a plan up to twice as far. Firms moving from a human only service can keep the same budget and cover more calls.

Bilingual English and Spanish

Both languages are included on every plan, for human and AI answering, and the AI detects the caller's language.

Appointment scheduling and 1,000+ integrations

Abby books into hundreds of scheduling platforms and lists integrations with Calendly, Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho CRM, Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, Slack, Teams, QuickBooks, Zendesk, Pipedrive, Mailchimp, Airtable and Asana.

Portal and AbbyGO app

The portal and the AbbyGO app show caller insights and let you call and text, change call handling yourself, block callers and manage voicemail.

The AI stack

Abby is unusually specific about its technology: Deepgram Flux for speech recognition, OpenAI models with automatic failover to Anthropic, and ElevenLabs voices, trained on more than 20 years of its receptionist calls.

Setup

Abby says onboarding is one short call, with no hardware or new phone system. After that you forward your number, which takes minutes. White glove onboarding is included on every plan.

What users say

Site Rating Reviews Notes
Trustpilot (abbyconnect.com) 4.4 33 82% five star, 12% one star

The newer abby.com Trustpilot profile has no reviews yet, so the abbyconnect.com profile is the one to read. Praise centers on warm, professional receptionists and responsive customer success managers, with staff named in several reviews. The one star reviews include a billing complaint about being charged the wrong amount, which Abby answered publicly. Thirty three reviews is a small sample; Ruby has 853 and AnswerConnect 1,544.

Privacy and security

Abby says call data is stored in the United States, is never sold or shared, and that no third party gets access to recordings, transcripts or summaries. It offers HIPAA compliance options and encrypts call recordings on all plans. Because the AI runs on OpenAI and Anthropic models, ask Abby whether its contracts with those providers exclude your call data from model training. The pages we opened do not say.

Before you sign up

  • Split your calls. Estimate how many are routine (hours, directions, booking) and how many need a person. Routine calls are where AI halves the cost.
  • Pick the plan on Abby Minutes, not AI minutes. If half your minutes go to humans, Essential covers 100 Abby Minutes, not 200 AI minutes.
  • Set flag rules early. Decide which callers always go to a human, such as existing clients or anyone who mentions a deadline.
  • Use the free trial to compare AI and human handling of the same call types.
  • Ask for the BAA if you handle patient data, and how OpenAI and Anthropic process your calls.

Who it is for

  • Law firms, medical practices and agencies that want a person available on every call
  • Businesses moving off a human only answering service that want AI to stretch the budget
  • Bilingual English and Spanish offices
  • Teams that need HIPAA options and encrypted recordings
  • Owners who want month to month terms and no setup fee

Who should skip it

  • Cost focused buyers who only need AI. Rosie, Upfirst or Nextiva XBert cost a fraction per call.
  • High volume lines. Growth's 1,000 AI minutes cost $1,380.
  • Home service shops booking into ServiceTitan. See Avoca or Sameday AI.
  • Buyers who weigh review counts. 33 Trustpilot reviews is thin next to Ruby and AnswerConnect.

Alternatives

  • Smith.ai: AI receptionist from $0 with a per call live receptionist add on.
  • Ruby: human receptionists from $250 for 50 minutes, legal CRM integrations.
  • Posh: mixed AI and live minutes, pay as you go from $65.
  • AnswerConnect: human only, 4.9 on Trustpilot from 1,544 reviews.

Verdict

Abby Connect is the most flexible hybrid receptionist we compared: one plan, one unit, humans and AI on the same call, English and Spanish, HIPAA options and month to month terms. Counting AI minutes at half makes it cheaper than a human only service, but it is still several times the per minute price of pure AI tools. Pick it if a real person on hand matters more to you than the lowest bill. Full rankings: best AI receptionists.
