What it is

Voiceflow is a conversational AI platform for customer experience teams. You design an agent once and deploy it on web chat, in apps, on WhatsApp, over SMS and on phone calls. It reports 3,000+ customers, 10,000+ live AI agents and more than 1 billion messages processed, and names customers including Turo, StubHub, Superloop, Sanlam and Trilogy.

Voiceflow positions itself as a platform for support operations rather than general automation. Its homepage says most teams go from concept to a live agent in under 12 weeks, which tells you the expected buyer: a support or CX team with real processes, not a solo founder wiring up a quick bot.

The product has a few named parts:

  • Agent Studio. Controls persona, tone and instructions.
  • Playbooks. Turn support expertise into step by step agent processes.
  • Workflows. Fixed business logic for things like refunds or bookings.
  • Knowledge base. Imports policies and help content from sources such as Zendesk, Notion and Google Sheets.
  • Atlas. Finds gaps in conversations and suggests improvements.

Pricing explained

Voiceflow is the hardest platform in this category to price. The public pricing page shows two paths and no numbers.

Path What the pricing page says
Agencies and Partners Free trial, no credit card; transparent, usage based billing; multi client workspaces; white labeling; access to major LLM providers
Businesses Book a demo to request pricing; self serve or managed implementation; multi channel deployment; real time analytics; team collaboration

Voiceflow's billing documentation fills in the plan structure:

Plan Price What the docs say it includes
Free $0 Limited features and a one time credit grant that does not renew
Pro Not published All LLM models and a higher agent limit than Free
Business Not published LLM fallback models and priority support
Enterprise Quote only Unlimited product usage, single sign on, private cloud hosting, custom credit allotments

Current prices for plans, add-ons and credit bundles appear only inside the app, under Plans and Billing.

How credits work

Credits are shared across your workspaces and are used up by actions such as generating AI responses and making phone calls. The docs publish a credit pricing table inside the app that covers LLM calls, voice and orchestration usage, but it did not render on the public page we opened, so we cannot quote the per action rates.

Two settings matter for your bill:

  • Auto top up. You set a dollar amount that is bought automatically when your balance hits zero. Without it, agents can run out of credits mid month.
  • Add-ons. Editor seats and Voiceflow phone numbers are adjusted on the Add-ons tab, so a bigger team or more phone lines raise the bill outside the credit meter.

Cancellation is straightforward: you keep paid features until the end of the billing period, then the account reverts to the free tier.

What to ask on the demo

Since there is no public sheet, get these in writing:

  1. Monthly plan fee for Pro and Business, and the annual discount if any.
  2. Credits included per month and the price of each extra bundle.
  3. Credits used per AI response and per phone minute for the models you plan to use.
  4. Editor seat price and how many seats each plan includes.
  5. Phone numbers included and the price per extra number.
  6. Which plan includes a signed HIPAA BAA and SSO.

With those six numbers you can model cost per conversation and compare it with published rates in the AI Price Index. For contrast, Botpress lists $0.65 per extra conversation on Plus, and Vapi lists $0.05 per minute of hosting before model costs.

Key features

Chat and voice from one agent

This is the main reason to buy Voiceflow. The same agent logic serves web chat, in app chat, WhatsApp, SMS and phone. The homepage lists English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Hindi among supported languages.

Phone deployment

According to the docs, Voiceflow handles inbound and outbound calling. You can use US or Canadian numbers that Voiceflow provisions, or bring numbers from Twilio, Vonage or Telnyx. That flexibility is useful if your contact center already runs on one of those carriers.

Playbooks and workflows

Playbooks capture how your best agents handle a case, and workflows enforce exact steps where policy matters. Mixing the two gives you AI answers on open questions and strict logic on refunds, cancellations and identity checks.

Knowledge base

Import policies and help articles from Zendesk, Notion, Google Sheets and other sources, then query the knowledge base from the agent or through the API.

Tools and integrations

The homepage names integrations with Salesforce, Shopify, HubSpot, Airtable, ServiceNow and Twilio, and Voiceflow lists contact center platforms such as Genesys. The total is modest compared with general automation tools, so check that your helpdesk and order system are covered.

Analytics, transcripts and testing

Resolution tracking, transcript review and split testing across environments let you measure whether the agent actually resolves cases. Atlas flags conversation gaps and suggests fixes.

Developer tools

Custom code functions, an API and a CLI let developers extend agents. Voiceflow also lists integrations with Claude, OpenAI and Cursor for building with AI coding tools.

Agency features

The agency path includes multi client workspaces and white labeling, so a consultancy can run many client agents under its own brand.

What users say

Voiceflow scores 4.1 on Trustpilot from 15 reviews (October 2026). G2 and Capterra blocked page fetches during this update, so we cannot quote their current scores.

Fifteen reviews is a small sample. The published facts point to where buyers should focus:

  • Strength in support. Customer stories cite a 70% AI resolution rate at Trilogy and a 45% offer to lead rate at Sanlam, according to Voiceflow.
  • Control over the flow. Playbooks, workflows and split testing give support leads more control than simple chatbot builders.
  • Pricing friction. The lack of public prices is the clearest drawback for small teams comparing tools.
  • Implementation time. A concept to live window of up to 12 weeks suits planned rollouts, not a weekend project.

Privacy and security

  • Certifications. The homepage lists SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA. Its trust center runs on Drata.
  • Model training. Voiceflow says it does not use customer data to train any machine learning or AI models, and that integrated providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic are configured with zero data retention.
  • Encryption. Data is encrypted at rest with customer managed keys and in transit with TLS and mTLS, according to its security page.
  • Infrastructure. 24x7 monitoring, multi availability zone cloud hosting, and full project history with rollback.
  • Access. SSO is listed among enterprise access controls, and the billing docs place SSO and private cloud hosting on Enterprise.
  • Disclosure. A responsible disclosure program and bug bounty are published.

There is no self hosted edition.

Who it is for

  • Customer support teams that want an AI agent handling chat and phone with strict policy steps.
  • Contact centers running on Twilio, Vonage, Telnyx or Genesys.
  • Agencies building and white labeling agents for several clients.
  • Regulated industries that need HIPAA, ISO 27001 and a no training commitment.

Who should skip it

  • Small businesses that need a price today. Botpress publishes every plan, and Chatbase starts at $40 a month.
  • Back office automation. If no customer ever talks to the agent, Zapier, Make or Gumloop fit better.
  • Developers building raw voice infrastructure. Vapi at $0.05 per minute of hosting and ElevenLabs Agents at $0.08 per minute publish per minute rates.
  • Teams that want a helpdesk agent with no build work. Intercom Fin charges $0.99 per outcome inside its own helpdesk.
  • Anyone who must self host. Voiceflow is cloud only.

Verdict

Voiceflow is the most complete platform here for support teams that need one agent across chat and phone with policy grade control, carrier choice and a security story that includes HIPAA, ISO 27001 and no training on customer data. It earns its slot as the pick for voice and chat support teams in our agent builder ranking.

Its weak point is the one buyers notice first: no public prices. Start on the Free plan or the agency trial, collect the six numbers above on a demo, and model cost per conversation before you sign. If you need a known price this week, Botpress is the safer start.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Voiceflow cost?

Voiceflow does not publish dollar prices as of October 2026. Its billing docs name Free, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans, with current prices shown only inside the app under Plans and Billing. Businesses are routed to a demo, and agencies get a free trial with usage based billing.

Is Voiceflow free?

There is a Free plan with limited features and a one time credit grant that does not renew. Once those credits are used, you need a paid plan or a credit bundle to keep agents answering. Agencies can also start a free trial with no credit card.

What are Voiceflow credits?

Credits are the usage unit shared across your workspaces. They are consumed by actions such as generating AI responses and making phone calls. You can buy larger credit bundles and set an auto top up amount so agents do not stop mid month.

Can Voiceflow handle phone calls?

Yes. Voiceflow deploys agents on inbound and outbound phone calls, using US or Canadian numbers it provisions or your own numbers from Twilio, Vonage or Telnyx. The number of Voiceflow numbers included depends on your plan, and extra numbers are an add-on.

Is Voiceflow HIPAA compliant?

Voiceflow lists HIPAA alongside SOC 2, ISO 27001 and GDPR on its homepage, and its trust center is hosted on Drata. Confirm a signed BAA and which plan includes it during your demo before you handle patient data.

Is Voiceflow worth it?

For support and contact center teams that need one agent across chat and voice with tight control over the flow, yes: it reports 3,000+ customers and 10,000+ live agents. For a small business that wants a known monthly price, Botpress or Chatbase is easier to budget.

Is Voiceflow better than Botpress?

Voiceflow is better for voice, phone and regulated support teams. Botpress is better for budgets and developers, with a free plan of 100 conversations, Plus at $150 a month billed annually and a code first ADK.

Does Voiceflow use my data to train AI?

No. Voiceflow's security page says it does not use customer data to train any machine learning or AI models, and that integrated providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic are configured with zero data retention.
